BR800 - Sonar X3 Upgrade

I have been using Sonar LE since I got my BR800 last year.  I have found that the LE version has been somewhat limited (hence the LE) but it has helped me to learn how DAWs work. Prior to this I had been rather ignorant.

I have just purchased the Sonar X3 upgrade for $49 and managed to load it onto my laptop tonight.  It took a few attempts.  It seems to be a massive application and the upload kept failing.  However, I finally got it to work.

The upgrade came with a free set of tutorials which I have almost finished watching.  The whole package, plus the tutorials, seems to be great value.  I am very excited and can't wait to start using the additional features.  There are so many things available I doubt that I will ever fully exhaust the possibilities.

If anyone is interested, I'll give you some feedback as I go.

cheers,

Ian

Cool. Looks like an impressive DAW. Which version did you get - regular, studio, or producer?

Have you installed the SONAR X3e update yet? Lots of bug fixes. It's about 600 MB to download.

I'd love to know how you get on - I've got Sonar LE and never use it.

Please do, Ian. I started with LE too, and then it became a money pit! :o
If you don't already do so, check the Cakewalk Forum, tons of info and advice. Good luck.  8)

I got the basic sonar3.  There's no need for me to go further just yet because Sonar3 already has enough for me.  The upgrade got posted to my cakewalk account automatically.  I'll probably load it up some time this week.

Sonar3 does look pretty good.  The first thing I want to to do is work out how to link it to my synth so I can use the virtual synths and the the other plug in instruments that come with the DAW, especially the drums. The linking is the same as sonar LE  but the screens are different.

Cheers,

Ian

Why was it a money pit?  Was it because of all the spam offers they send?  I've been tempted by those.

Oh, Ian, there are always new whizzbangs and gizmos they're inventing to add-on and make your bright, shiney machine/DAW even better. You just watch. But good luck with what you've already got.  :)

i too use sonar ive been using it since sonar 8 (producer) and have upgraded every time a new one came out which is roughly once a year and the price is very reasonable, a 100 euro a year on a new daw isnt that bad considiring what you get with it..
but if your looking for a drum app Ian try toontracks ez or superior drummer you cant get better in my opinion..
