Burtog was lamenting his loss of mojo. I felt the same, I'd lost the eargerness to music. I started tinkering with the stuff that used to excite me as a young 'un, my time, late 70's early 80's.

It's renewed my interest. This is a bit more of the early synthy stuff just about 1979 when I was living in Madchester - too poor to get into the Hacienda, I thought disco was crap and anyone who liked it was a girl. I saw OMD at Manchester Poly Student's Union (Cavendish House if my memory serves me correctly). I remember it has a balcony that went right round the place and a burger kitchen and a couple of bars, the obligatory space invaders.. but I digress.

OMD were the first seriously electronic band I'd seen, they had a funky 4 track and keyboards and a bassist. The sound was palpable, you could have sliced it up with a knife. I was hooked within seconds. Amazing gig, still as fresh as it was 35 yeras ago.

Simple but effective - still gets me going.

Fantastic. I love the synths. Great sound and well performed.

I'm not familiar with the original. I need to check out some more of OMD's music. I know "Enola Gay" of course as it was quite popular. And I have "The Pacific Age" on a cassette somewhere, though I didn't really listen to it a lot. The only other OMD song I have is "The Misunderstanding", which is on a Virgin compilation album called "Cash Cows". It's a pretty cool album and also has tracks by The Human League, Japan, Magazine, The Flying Lizards, and Tangerine Dream, to name a few. Anyway, your excellent recording makes me want to check out some more of OMD's work. I love that 80s synth music.

I remember the original, and you really caught the vibe. In fact, listening to this feels like riding on a Wayback Machine. Love those synths...got a bit of the Casiotone feel to them in places (intended as a compliment...I love Casiotones). Lots of bright squiggles and dark pads.

Nice energy and production, too - it's a mover!

Great to hear you! I don`t know this but cool. I agree with you. At work last night i heard some old 80`s songs that sparked me into a different thinking. Good work! Keep posting boss!

i have a soft spot for the early synth stuff and the eighties progression of some synth artists. This is totally fab, hoping you are gonna do a few more like this.

80sSynthFest will be right up your street at the moment!

Mostly I use Reaper for PC through a Focussrite Scarlett 8i6, but the MBR comes out for the bits I can't do easily in my little room. Vox for this was done in the car into the MBR well away from civilisation.

I can't wait for warmer weather when I can get into my shed.

I recall Granada Television using the instrumental parts of this as a background to continuity announcements, jeeze, it drove me nuts for months before I found out what it was. I was already way long-in-the-tooth by then, but hey, when I did find out I bought the cassette OMD had out - in fact I ultimately bought the Greatest Hits cassette - which I STILL play!

Thank you for this, FH, it's taken me way back and is a very creditable stab at covering this gorgeous toon!
Well done, a great upload.  8)

Ah! I remember the song, though I didn't know it was OMD's.
Your playing and production sounds perfect.

I checked the lyrics and I am surprised they are so up to date!
