Putting this out for discussion but have you ever sold an instrument and totally regretted it?
I remember selling a gordon smith guitar years ago and wish I never had because I've never seen one like it again and believe now it was probably custom made for some dude.
I have since then to my wife's horror never been able to part with most of my instruments,so,,,,,just askin  ;D

I sold an American-made Hamer Sunburst that was super nice. I regret that now and again.

I sold a 1969 Red VOX teardrop bass and Essex bass amp years ago that I wish I had now. I purchased them both new. I also had a 1970's Japanese LP copy that was a great player and looker that I sold plus various amps (Carvin, Acoustic, Standell) but I don't regret those as much. I tend to hang onto musical things now...probably longer than I should, lol.

I'm a SPECIALIST by this point of view, and my serious problem is that I regret at the point that some time AFTER I've sold an instrument, I buy it again in its more expensive version.  :-[

Two examples:

2008: I sell a white Mex Fender Stratocaster - 2012 I buy an American Deluxe Fender Stratocaster

2009: I sell aGibson Les Paul Faded Red Cherry - 2011 I buy a Gibson Les Paul Standard

64Guitars

I regret selling everything. Fortunately, I learned my lesson early and now I never sell anything. When I was in my teens and twenties, I sold a couple of guitars and amps.

  • my first electric guitar which was a Silvertone that my grandparents bought for me. It had four pickups and separate rocker-type switches for each pickup so you could have any combination. It wasn't a very good guitar but I miss it terribly.
  • A "Mustang" by Thorcraft combo amp with 10" speaker that my Dad bought me.
  • Gibson SG-200
  • Bogen PA amplifier which I used as a guitar amp.

None of that stuff was very good and I have much better equipment now. But you don't realize how attached you can get to a guitar or amp until you sell it. I wish I had kept all of it. I have fond memories of playing with that gear.

I forgot that I had a Fender Blues Jr. I sold for $100 (ouch) and a solid state Yamaha with two 12" Jensens that sounded great with pedals in front of it.

I'm with 64.  I don't sell much these days. I haven't posted in the "What My Studio Looks Like" thread because I'm so embarrassed as to what I have accumulated.

On another G.A.S.-related note, I was in Atlanta over the weekend, and they now have a Guitar Center outlet store there.  Very dangerous place to be (and they encourage haggling there).

I had a Cemar Chinese made Jazz copy. It was fucking awful. I regret selling it, it should have been burned.
