If I think about Tommy, the truth is that every time I listened to one of his songs, at the end there was a smile on my face.

So, I can only be thankful to him for giving me so many times the gift of a smile, a very precious gift, by my point of view.

This is a bump of our collab, 4 years ago. He choose the song and of course, as a true gentleman, as an act of courtesy he suggested a song from my land. I was, and still am, very glad about this song together.

I'm glad you did it too and yes it was impossible to listen to Tommy's music without smiling and/or in my case dancing.

Such a lovely man - I had my first paid job (I can't remember when but a few years back) in a musical as an Irish witch and was having trouble with the accent. Tommy recorded all the dialogue and sent it to me so that I could get it right. I had every intention to go to Dublin and keep a Wednesday night free so that I could sing with him in his club. He'd also asked me to sing some collabs that we'll never do now.

I guess we'll never get to go to Mexico.

Tommy will be greatly missed but we have his musical legacy and this, as always, is a delight - you're singing Alfredo!

thank for the bump , Alex ,.. I did not hear that  cover song

QuoteFirst of all, I have to say that I've always loved the Tommy-sound, I think that Tommy could be "The King of Cleans", so when he asked me to do some song together, I was enthusiast about it. And I left him the choice.

It was a great surprise for me when he asked me to do O Sole Mio, since there must be some mysterious link between this song, me, and Ireland: the ONLY time I sang something in public it was O Sole Mio in a pub near Galway, when the local folks asked a group of Sicilian tourists (me included  ;D) to sing some song typical of our land. The others were all shy, so I took enough courage (and enough beer...) and began to SING!  :o The problem with my voice is not about tuning, but about extension, so I've never been proud of myself singing.  :-\

Anyway, the first part is by me. I've tried to sing in the most traditional possible way, very "neo-melodic"  :D

It's not Italian, it's Neapolitan dialect, quite different from Italian language, but since I've lived my childhood and teen years rather near Naples, it's very easy for me to speak Neapolitan. Apart from this, acoustic guitar by me and, as usual, bass and accordion are Band-in-a-Box Real Tracks.

Tommy made the rest, and...WOW! I love his mandolin-like accents and his whole rendition of this classic song. I absolutely love his playing...

and thank you Alfredo for the story  and anecdote of this collab

QuoteThe problem with my voice is not about tuning, but about extension,  :-\
........I know this problem but but i love your way to sing this traditional song against the current in the usual way   "ténorisante"  ( "tenorizing?" )

QuoteTommy could be "The King of Cleans"
yes of course Tommy WAS the King of Cleans"

I don't know half of you half as well as I should like, and I like less than half of you half as well as you deserve.

That reallysays it all,

"At the end of listening to a piece of music you have a smile on your face".

Absolutely lovely recording of a classic, I was singing along with my made up lyrics and smiling.

Thanks
