Thanks all for the kind words, it really helps to get feedback like this, especially after such a tortuous journey. I'm actually happier with this now than when I first posted it, the final mix has turned out ok, although I still think it's a bit too long in places. However, Jim (Old Rotten Head) is working on lyrics and I'll create another version with those in. Vox might help create a bit more variation.

I'll have to deny the BR800 wizard crown because this is a combo of the BR800 for recording but all the final mixing was done in a DAW (Samplitude) and I have to admit I like the flexibility that gives. But I have been using more of the tricks I have learned through this site, particularly people like AndyR and Henwrench (keep those drums clean!). And everyone on here is an inspiration, because listening to all your great work makes me want get something done and posted.

This is a bit of a landmark for me as well, because this is the first piece of music I have produced since I have started wearing hearing aids. They do make it a bit more difficult (because I can't wear them when using headphones) but I have got used to them. And I think being able to hear a much wider spectrum of sound (especially high frequencies) has helped.

and it`s damn heavy! It`s like a Tool song. I`m waiting for Maynard Keenan to start singing. Excellent song Nigel.
So full and rich throughout the stereo field.

Now just some advice from someone who lost tracks before too.
 I record and then upload to comp right away for backup.

You should ask your hearing specialist for a copy of your audiogram. Then you could use playback EQ to compensate for your hearing loss at the frequencies that need it to effectively achieve a near-flat frequency response while using headphones.

Aha, we're ahead of you there. I have programmable aids and the audiologist was also a very knowledgable music guy, many of his clients are rock and classical musicians. So he created a "music" setting for me which does not have any compression or attenuation that the voice and other settings use, with the eq compensated for my frequency loss. So I have a flat setting for music (hence I am hearing things properly for the first time in many years). The issue is that the aids are quite deep in ear ones and I can't really wear them with headphones because it is a) a bit uncomfortable and b) they don't work as well with the sound source so close to them.

Thanks, love the Tool reference! I've been listening to them and similar bands a lot over the past year. I guess I've gone kind of heavy, proggy, post-rock metallish in my outlook....

Immense!  I love this Nigel, the complexity of the rhythms, bass is a percussion instrument after all, and an interesting and surprisingly large soundscape. A great use of effects and textures which build into a brilliant piece of art.
This is going onto my playlist.
And all without the muddiness that could so easily have been the result of so many bass guitar tracks mixed together.

Yes, but my point was that since you can't wear the hearing aids when using headphones, you could use playback EQ to match your audiogram (only when using headphones) so that it would sound reasonably flat without the hearing aids.
