So I just got a Yamaha DD-35 (the 4 pad one) off craigslist, to go with my YDD-60. I got it for $20, actually $5 more than I paid for the YDD-60 + stand & a cheap throne. I have a stand for my tri bongo's that seems like it will work. I just hooked it up today & it works like I thought it would but there is a hiss. I'm using a stereo mp3 cord with a stereo 1/4 inch adapter plugging into the 35. Neither unit has a hiss in the speakers when used individually, I'm thinking it's coming from the 35, perhaps it's too much for the onboard speakers or do I need a better cord? Any suggestions would be great because the hiss is far to prevalent to record with.

Hopefully I'll have some time to mess around with it this weekend. From a quick turn through the sound bank the 35 isn't quite as good sound quality as the 60 but there are a few decent cymbals that have a different sound and some good auxiliary percussion sounds. It's heavy on silly sounds & sound effects which will come in handy for my next work related cd. I'm not overly impressed by it but I'm not disappointed either., assuming I can get rid of the hiss! Sadly I think this is the closest I'm getting to a kit in the near future, but it's better thn nothing!!!

So I just did a little test, the hiss is definitely coming from the 35. I just recorded a little drum track & put it in Audacity & I was able to remove this hiss. An extra step but not to difficult. I figured out how to assign sounds to the pads of the 35. It gives me an extra crash, a deep ride, a Chinese cymbal & then a cowbell, guiro, tambourine, etc. I could of course assign any of the sounds in the 100 sound bank, congas, timbale, sound effects but I mostly wanted some extra cymbals. Outside of the hiss the only other disappointment is that when you turn it off it all goes back to factory settings, but assigning the pads is pretty easy, Next I'm going to set up a custom kit on the 60, hopefully it's as easy as the 35 & I think it saves the custom settings...whoo hoo!
Once again, I've pretty much resigned myself to the idea that this is the closest I'm getting to a kit right now so I'm going to make the best of it!

Cool setup, Hook. I have an older Yamaha that crapped out in one channel. I keep telling myself to open it up, but it's been years now.

On another note, are you going to the Sunshine Blues Fest next Sunday at Vinoy Park?
