Really sorry to hear you're having health problems Dave, and I hope you heal up soon.

I'll echo what others have already said: try playing/learning other instruments. When I broke my left shoulder in 2011, it was very uncomfortable to play guitar so I concentrated more on playing uke and keyboards. Just a way to keep the music going, if you so choose. In my case, my injury healed up over time (and effort).

Taking a break from music isn't a bad idea, either - it's a good way to recharge your batteries. Your number one priority should be to take care of your health. That's the source of everything enjoyable in this life.

Anyway, hang in there buddy - hope to hear more from you, when the time is right.

Take care,
Joe

We hope you are feeling better very soon. Identifying the problem may be the key so hopefully you're on the path to identify the culprit.  I'm also sorry to hear about the music front, but your health is more important. But I hope you do explore lots of musically related paths as I think music can be the best healer. Both listening and creating and/or performing. Wishing you the best and thinking about you.

Hi Dave,

sorry to know about your problems.

I usually treat these situations with pregabalin 75 mg twice a day (to begin), with very good result...what did your GP prescribe you? Duloxetine (30 mg once a day to begin, then 60 mg) is good too.

Alfredo

P.S....six month waiting list to have given a GP???...kicked out because you didn't go to your GP????  ???

...incredible...when I read such things I don't regret to live in my poor nation, rich only of problems...

thinking of you big guy. last year i had a trapped nerve at the top of my spine. it wasn't very painful, more like an earache, but my left arm would go completely numb with pins and needles, as if someone punched me and gave me a dead arm.

my doctor prescribed some crazy psychotropic drug that apparently works as a relaxant. i took one and slept for 24 hours straight. with my work i do sleepovers so i told doctor i couldn't take them. so he put me on an anti inflammatory drug, that seemed to work, tho eventually the trapped nerve slipped back out from where it was pressing against my vertebrae, and resolved itself. i am sure it is down to wear and tear and shall return at some point.

anyway i digress, but round about that period playing guitar was impossible for me, so i did lots of right handed keyboard playing. if i had my kaossilator that would have been ideal.

however  no matter how much music and songwriting means to us, health and family should be first and foremost in our priorities. as a compulsive muso that is a hard credo to live by. i imagine  it's the same for you dave.

i wish you a speedy resolution and recovery to your condition.

i don't have a red ale to raise for you, however i am gonna crack open a can of tennents lager and toast you good health.

cheers dave!
