Just watch the top end on the mastering though. There is just a hint of 'glassy-ness', just on the edge of sounding a little too processed and a little too 'scooped'. It's a very fine line and I've been guilty of going treble heavy and mid light on a couple of mine.

Henny does give some good advice though, the end result is a little toppy and could do with taming at the top end or a bit more in the mids.

I am indeed getting older, and your comments really worried me for a while, 'cause at first I could not get what you meant! I thought I had a fairly good mix, though I wasn't 100% happy with it. But suddenly I heard it, (maybe I washed my ears ) .... listened to it with other headphones and compared it to my previous post. ....

Well not relying on my ears to get it right with another try I shelved it for a while ...

Had a go at it today ... still not confident that it's the best I can get it, but I'm much happier with the new mix. I'll keep both versions up a while and when I'm sure I won't get another case of Boskoschwartzitis I'll remove the old mix .......

Ha! Ha! The old mix sounds pretty cool on the crappy speakers, but I can hear the "extra top end" to which Henny is alluding. Looks like I've got to get the headphones...

Okies... I prefer the new mix. Meaty and bouncy like Greeny says. But there are elements of the old mix that are quite attractive too - it's clearer and seems to have more separation for the parts... but it lacks the oomph.

If it was me, I'd now mix it 20 more times trying to find the middle ground

However, I noticed Henny said "mastering" not mixing. Do you do anything after mixing? Do you have the original mix but "pre-master"? I'd be tempted to try it through different mastering presets on the BR to see what happens (er, does the BR-80 and BR-800 still have these? The MBR and the BR1600 have the same ones, the editing in the 1600 is slightly more sophisticated, but it's pretty much the same treatments until you tweak them). I know the "grown-ups" tend to say don't use mastering to change the sound, do that in the mix... but who cares? Do whatever works...


ANYWAY, the sane advice here is - sod that, go with the new version, it works!!

Oh, and the song is a "grower" each time you listen to it (I've got it stuck going around my head now!!).

Not sure whether this last bit will be welcome - except you are a fan, aren't you? - it makes me think/feel ABBA, every time I listen, but I can't put a finger on why.

Yes i love this song. It`s probably because it`s so fast paced extraordinary amazing!!

The new mix does sound better but only the pros like Hen would pick that out. I often wonder how i end up with my final mixes sounding crappier than the day i posted too.

Do we hear different on different days? I guess it`s why it`s a whole different art form.

Nevertheless this song rocks and so does Mr. Geir!
