My cover of the 1967 Velvet Underground song Venus in Furs.

This is what the Germans would call ein dopplefester - a double fester.  The guitar uses an open tuning E-A-A-E-A-E then a capo on fret 3 brings it up to C tuning.  I'm pleased that I managed to figure out how to play the chorus in this tuning (which is D#-G#-A#-D#), I thought I would have to record that separately in normal tuning.  The guitar is DI'd into the Zoom, unprocessed with only a little reverb. I like how it sounds.

The drums are DM-1 sounds sampled into GarageBand through AudioBus.  Then there's a GB cello (with pizzicato) and then a separate Thumbjam cello part. The Bass is GB, with an insert effect when recording to make it a bit more lo-fi.

I recorded each track separately onto the Zoom with no GB reverb and I think the track sounds more integrated with the guitar and vocal because of it.

You really transported me with this one. An exceptional version. Totally trippy. Great job!

Wow!!

Totally blown away by this. So very faithful to the original - you really paid attention to all the little details. Definitely a double-fester - drone on! :)

You did a great job on the vocal. Sounds very authentic... this style suits your voice.

Thanks all.  I think recording the individual tracks from GarageBand gives a better result than just taking the overall stereo mix.  More work though, especially when the track is 5 minutes long.

I know what you're saying.  I did an earlier mix with a more forward vocal, it didn't sit right at all, so I did it again with with it sat more back in the mix.  Maybe a step too far.
