I've seen a couple of great deals for either 300 or 400 dollars on some great recorders...... right after I spent about 400 bucks on a used 1600. And I'm not enjoying the 1600 at all, to boot. *kicks self in ass*

That being said, I've not really given it a good work out. If I actually used the darn thing more than once every couple of weeks I would probably get the feel of it and like it better.

This is an excellent buy! It caught my eye first thing this morning. I was thinking it would be cool to upgrade from my 16 to 24 tracks/bit recording so I quickly read a Sound on Sound review of it. They gave it a thumbs up. The only thing that stopped me was that it doesn't have any built in drums. I could always use the drum machines as I do now but if I'm going to upgrade I wanted it to include drums. Oh well, it's still an excellent value for the money but I'll have to pass.

It has MIDI, so you could sync your drum machine to the DP-24. Then it would behave pretty much like a recorder with a built-in drum machine except that it's not all in one box. The transport controls on the DP-24 would cause the drum machine to stop, start, return to zero, etc. and control its tempo so that your recording and your drum arrangement would always be in sync.

But maybe you're already doing that with your Fostex VF-160 since it also has MIDI?
