Rockin' :)

That's an actual AC30? Have you got pedals in front of it? If not, are all your neighbours deaf?? :D

I can get away with "quite loud" here, but getting that sound out of an AC30 would probably push the limits a bit!!

Andy,  yes its an actual AC30.  It is an AC30CC2X which has a master volume control.  This allows me to turn up the preamp stage but reduce the sound that comes out of the speakers.  It provides the overdriven sound without so much volume.

However, on this particular recording I was actually using a pedal.  It was a VOX Ice 9 Overdrive.  I bought it recently from a guitar shop that was having a moving sale.  It is a good match with the AC30.

Ah... that's a relief! I was starting to feel jealous if you were able to push a non-master-volume AC30 that hard :D

I've got one of the AC4 combos from a few years back - but it's WAY too loud for the tones I want, so I just use it as a foot-stool when recording acoustics at the moment! When you crank it, it sounds gorgeous, but I haven't got the environment to be able to do it.

Funnily enough, though, on my last one, I also used a real amp mic'd up for the first time in ages (my Laney Cub, that has master volume). Usually I get better results on a recording from using my Vox Tonelab modellor, but this one turned out fine... enough to get me interested in trying it again (so the Laney is warming up beside me even as I type!)
