Hi folks,

Here is a new one from me called "I'm Sorry"

The words were written on the train one recent Friday morning. The music wrote itself later the same night.  Its just a 12 bar blues progression.

I did something a little different this time with recording the guitars.  I used two microphones to record the guitar through my AC30.  One mic was a dynamic mic which ws placed up close to the amp.  The other mic is a condenser and was placed higher and further away to pick up the sound of the room.  I recorded the same performance with each mic recorded to its own track. I did this for the rhythm and the lead guitar parts.  I really like how it turned out.  It has a "live" sound.  I also like that fact that I recorded my real amp rather than a "sample" of my amp.

The keyboard sound is also a new thing for me.  You can tell because there was one chord that was a little harder for me to grab and play in time.  I did practice but I ran out of patience. The keyboard is a Korg Microkorg.

Drums are the BR800 and bass is a strat via the guitar to bass patch.

Lastly, the backing vocals are provided by my drag queen friend Suzy Swan.  She is available via the pitch control patch on the BR800.  She is the closest thing I have to the Sumpremes when a song calls for that sound.  If you can just use your imagination..........?

I hope you like it,

regards,

Ian

I'm Sorry

Words and music: Ian Robertson
1 November 2013

When I left the house today
I had one thing on my mind
I had something unkind to say
To the first person I could find

If it was you, I'm sorry
There was nothing I could do, I'm sorry

I don't want you to believe
That I will understand your thoughts
They have nothing to do with me
I prefer ones and noughts

If I hurt you, I'm sorry
There was nothing I could do, I'm sorry

I do the same thing every day
I get up and go to work
I'm only there for my pay
I don't go there to talk
I don't really want to play
It's better if you leave me alone
It's better if you let me have my way
I'm just better on my own

You should just try to help yourself
I'm sure that someone cares
Go and talk to someone else
You might find they'd like to "share"

If I hurt you, I'm sorry
There was nothing I could do, I'm sorry

If it was you, I'm sorry
There was nothing I could do, I'm sorry

If it was you, I'm sorry
There was nothing I could do, I'm sorry

Cool tune brother, that korg sounds pretty great. I love the sound you got from your mic placement, it does have a very energetic, live feel to it.
Rock On!

Oh a great song and I love the "one way or another" vibe - if I'm honest, I'm not too keen on Susy Swan - I think you need a real woman  :o

Cool rock song, Ian - great live guitar sound and the organ really drives it along.

Backing vocals came out pretty well, I think - if you hadn't mentioned how you did the female voice, I would have been none the wiser. :)

I agree that Suzy is not the most subtle of performers.  She needs some taming!

There is a real woman around the house who could do the backing vocals but getting her anywhere near a microphone is the issue!  Any tips?

Hey Cuthbert - If I could fool you, I hope you never get fooled by a drag queen in real life   :D

I know what you mean, my husband won't go anywhere near my songs - even if it's just talking . . .
