Saw a 2 pack of 2g cards at walgreens for $20 bucks, not sure if the MBR can use a 2g card and only access 1g of it.
Thanks

Hey Hook - yes, you can use a 2 GB SD card in the MBR, but you can only access 1 GB of it.

Roland has a list of supported & unsupported cards here:
http://www.roland.com/support/article/?q=faq&p=M-BR&id=38407354

Of the two lists, I'd say the unsupported list is the more important one. And if you don't see the card make/model you're interested in in the supported list, it may still work just fine.

Yeah, some 2GB cards will work (though they'll only recognize half of the capacity). Roland even lists a couple in their Micro BR FAQ (both from Lexar).

http://www.roland.com/support/article/index.cfm?q=faq&p=M-BR&id=38407354

But they also list four 2GB cards which they say are not compatible, one of which is also made by Lexar.

So the moral of the story is that some 2GB cards will not work with the Micro BR. Perhaps, a large percentage of the available 2GB cards won't work, if Roland's test results are any indication (of 6 cards tested, only 2 were deemed compatible). So you take your chances. According to the Walgreens website, they have a good returns policy

Q: What is Walgreens in-store return policy?

A: Items purchased at Walgreens may be returned to any of our stores within 30 days of purchase for exchange or refund. With original receipt, items will be returned for the full purchase price and refunds will be issued in the original method of payment. Without original receipt, items will be returned at the lowest advertised price and refunds will be issued as store credit to a W card. For any return, you will be asked for valid photo identification. We reserve the right to limit or refuse a refund. Gift cards, pre-paid cards and phone cards cannot be returned or exchanged (except where required by law).

NOTE: This policy does not apply to prescriptions or contact lenses. See Returns: Pharmacy and Returns: Contact Lenses for more information.

Assuming that memory cards are not excluded from that policy, then you should be able to return the cards for a refund if they don't work with your Micro BR. But I also found this in the FAQ:

Q: What if I need to return cosmetics or electronics?

A: Returns for cosmetics or electronics are handled at the discretion of the store manager, usually in the form of a Walgreens gift card.

I'm not sure if memory cards are considered "electronics". You might want to check with the store manager before you buy the cards.

Good luck!

Thanks guys will do! I've been having some "unformated card" messages when I turn it on. I can always pop the card out, blow into the port (card slot?) & it usually loads right up. I thought perhaps a new card would stop that in fact that's one reason I got the MR8 which arrived today. Only about 15% of what I record is for work but I can't be without a recorder. I'm rather intimidated by all the buttons on it but I hope to record something with it this weekend.
ON!

I couldn't find a thread to report cards that work with the Boss Micro BR, so I thought I'd put it here. If this is the wrong spot let me know.

I just bought a 1gb card that is kind of interesting, its a high speed card (for sd cards) and it doubles as a USB stick.

its described as "

SANDISK ULTRA II SD PLUS 1GB SECURE DIGITAL CARD 1 GB
The SanDisk Ultra II SD PLUS, an innovative SD flash memory card with built-in USB connectivity. The new card, which works seamlessly in any SD card slot, also can be used as a high-speed USB 2.0 flash drive. The new dual-functionality device has been added to the SanDisk Ultra II product line, a family of high-performance flash memory cards with write speeds of 9 megabytes (MB) per second and read speeds of 10MB/sec.

I got it off ebay for 8$ with free shipping. It formatted right up and worked well when I did some microphone tests. I record about 30 minutes on it with no problems. I haven't tried out the USB function yet.

All my cards for the MBR, save for one, are 2Gb cards. Different brands, also. They all work, but some are more problematic than others, with more "card wrong" errors (fixed by removing, reinserting). They also describe erratic behaviour when you approach the 1Gb mark, with write errors. But if you are careful, they are perfectly useable.

In my country, 1Gb cards had already vanished completely when I bought my MBR in 2009. The smallest ones I could find were and are 2Gb cards. They are still on sale. I just wonder why 1Gb cards have vanished completely from stores in my area!
