Guitar amp

I'm going to get an emergency kit for gigs, as I need to be prepared for all eventualities - can anyone recommend a reliable guitar amp that's smallish to cart around? (I'm gonna get my own DI box too)

Thanks :D

Haylie do you mean for electric or acoustic?

The Fender Mustang amps are good for the money, clean tones. Mostly for electric tho.

Roland do some small ones and they are portable Roland Mobile AC. There is a vid on YouTube.

hi Haylie

Fender have a range - Acoustasonic from about £79 to £300+ depending on the wattage you want.

Usually played electric in my gigging days and whenever i used my electro-acoustic I used to use my normal amp on a clean setting. A dedicated acoustic amp sounds better though.

There are many to choose from Haylie but it depends on your budget. Fender, Crate, Behringer, Acoustic, Roland, Yamaha are some that make them. I use a Fender Acoustasonic that I've had for a long time. It is 40 watts each side stereo with two 8" speakers with tweeter horns. The neat thing is that it can also double as your PA with one channel/amp for your acoustic and the other for your voice. It also has tilt back legs. I set it behind me, tilted back as PA/monitor/amp and it works great. I've played places that hold 100 folks and it worked great for me as a solo artist.  To guess my amp's weight I put it about 40 lbs and it cost $400 several years ago.

But there are a lot of them out there with the same features of various sizes and cost. Good luck on your search.

I was going to suggest the Acoustasonic as well.  They sound pretty darn good for something that doesn't break the bank. Not as familiar with what Roland offers for acoustics.

I've got a 20watt Acoustic Stagg but it's big and heavy - I figure I won't need much wattage as the bigger venues have their own set-up (hopefully). I had to use another comedian's DI box last night as the venue only had a microphone and he says he takes an amp with him just in case - I wish I'd found out the model (!)

I like the look for the Roland AC33 but its £359 (although it does come with a looper ;D) which seems a lot of money for a spare when I'm not exactly raking in the cash gigging.

Gonna hit the guitar shops tomorrow - see what they say!

There is a smaller AC! About £120. Looks like it doesn't need mains power too, maybe also runs off batteries.

It's only 5 watts, I'm not sure that's going to be big enough?
