No I dont think so anymore
I think I have finally seen the light
I have been saved!!!!!!
I have traveled the rocky road of life in the search for the PERFECT guitar -the one that plays and sounds in my head.
So after 50 years in the search for that holy grail of sound  what have I found??

I should never have sold me Fender Jaguar all those years ago ;D ;D ;D ;D

My conclusions
1 -what ever the guitar make sure it is set up properly
cos it may feel like a brush(broom) handle otherwise-another one bites the dust.
2 -Most important -your amp -it does not have to be a wall filler (amps linked and piggy backing left right and center up to the ceiling -no room for the poor drummer  ;D ;D
spend time with your amp and us the tone controls -its amazing the huge variety of sounds you can get from an ordinary run of the mill amp -
you watch a guy play a new model guitar on Ytube
what does he do in the demo-he shreds and uses banks of pedals
so what does the guitar sound like ???????
every other !!!!!
I have to say I have a couple of Mex Strats -love em
but I have a certain addiction to a Burns Cobra that I bought -being a lefty I could'nt let it pass and being Fiesta red as well-love that guitar -good gigging guitar  for parties and small gigs
very versatile -for the money peanuts as guitars go-worth checking out.
BUT -the message I'm trying to get across is -Rolls Royce guitar -sxxit amp -your on a loser
Guitar +good amp(does'nt have to cost an arm and leg) your on a winner -

me  ;D ;D ;D
well I still keep an eye on fleabay
cos you never know ;D ;D ;D ;D

Sorry to be so frank, but GAS is a lifelong ailment for which there is no known cure.

I like to think my GAS is under control but what have I bought this year?

Gibson Les Paul Traditional (for my son - but I get to play it)
KRK monitors (cheap on eBay)
Audio Technica condenser microphone
Korg MicroKorg Synth (cheap on eBay)

All this has kept me busy and learning but the GAS is always there.

Cheers,

Ian

Having not posted on here for a while due to, I don't no. I have had an awesome gas attack for the duration of absence.

In no particular order.  James Tyler JTV 69
                                  HD desktop 500
                                  Kaossilator 2
                                  Korg Monotron

During this period I have recorded on the BR80 my first solo album and am about to start the second.

The drums on the Kaos are fabulous and I intend to use those in conjunction with the on board BR80 drums, also the guitar which was a leap into the dark ( a very apprehensive one at that) has proved a worthwhile addition, a very versatile instrument even without the modeling aspect. I may have got lucky with it as the build and components are spot on, no bugs, just a slight adjustment to the action was all that was necessary.

Equally impressive is the HD desktop 500 which is a fantastic tool for recording with endless possibilities  for use both with guitar, keyboards, synth  and having an xlr input for a mic, vocals too.

The Kaossilator 2 is truly mind warping with very detailed sounds, a little small perhaps but great fun and a useful addition to the amour. I am eagerly awaiting the Monotron which should be here today. Techno here I come?

Having not posted for a considerable period does not mean I don't visit, I do every day and enjoy the forum as I always have. Cheers.

Hi Tommy...........my Gas is well under control.....although the dog has just dived under the sofa ;D.

Only acquired a Burns Marvin and a Buns Marquee Pro so far this year (oh and a Blackstar ID 15 TVP amp). :o

Really struggling to keep my hands off a Gretsch but cant possibly afford a White Falcon (or could I ???) but  agree with you that, even with this style of guitar, so many demos are via an OD pedal which tells you nothing about the basic sound of the instrument.

Must just check my bank balance............hmmm about £2k short. :o

WHAT IF? the hokey cokey is really what it's all about????

Hook

Yes...yes I do...constantly! In fact I covet every piece of gear I don't have. I loath every time I go to the music store (at least every 2-3 weeks) & spend $80 in pics & strings. All purchases for me have to be somehow directly linked to a paycheck & right now none of my gear is failing me. The current GAS list is...

Electronic drumset
br80
U-bass
cigar box guitar
this uke

a custom acoustic guitar (perhaps one that's also a working aquarium)
boss rc50
roland gr50
boss br1600
nice monitors
a room for a studio
a nice keyboard
kaossolator
Ipad
a Mac
a new Nissan

& the list goes on & on & on

Rock!

I have vague hankering for a banjo again, and maybe a mandolin (after listening to your recent one, Hook!).

I feel a need for both occasionally, and it's been re-awakened by mixing Delta Dawn. Lady Jane had brought her uke and stuck a track of it on there. I managed to get it into the mix, but what I really wanted was a banjo playing that part :D.
