some players won't play my CD

I export to 320kbs mp3's to get the best quality and then to CD with Nero Essentials.
This is to test on different systems.
They play fine on the computer and in the car but won't play on my (15 year old?) Sony CD player (To the stereo system) or, usually, a sony boom box. (It actually works occasionally but usually it says "no disc")
Is there another format I should be using to make these work or is it the devices?
Thanks

try burning the disc at the slowest burn speed possible . or try using different brands of cdr's to burn to. my old car stereo would only play the cheap unbranded cdr's for some reason.

Why MP3? You'll get much better quality if you burn your CDs from WAV files.

CompactDiscs originally had a capacity of 650MB or 74 minutes. The capacity was later increased to 700 MB or 80 minutes which is what's commonly available now. My guess is that your 15-year-old Sony can't handle 700 MB discs properly, which is not uncommon for players of that age. If you can find some 650 MB discs somewhere, you might find that they work better in your Sony player.

Also, make sure you finalize your CDs. Leaving it un-finalized allows you to write more data to the disc later, but some players can't play discs properly until they're finalized.

Good point on wav files, tho I did get the same result on a wave loaded CD.
Your note about capacity rings a bell.
I loaded the test CD up with 21 songs = 80 min so that could be it.
I'm assuming Nero does the finalizing cuz it doesn't ask me, it just finishes saying "done" or some such.
I'll look for 650's tho I'm betting they'll be hard to find? Technology changes so fast.

I do not know about wavs, but you won't fit as much as mp3s on a cd. I think you'd have to do it in the normal cd format of ogg vorbis, for it to work on old cd players? older cd players in cars or home stereo will not play cds made in mp3.

Glenn Mitchell

hmm the format of ogg vorbis is not an option for export from Sonar. I'll look for some conversion option I assume.
Thanks

Are you burning them as audio or as mp3 files? Older cd players can't play mp3 files although it has been standard for a couple of years. So if you have mp3 files but burn an audio disc they will work, but the audio will be mp3 quality instead of the full quality of WAV or other lossless formats.

Also, what 64guitars said.

I do burn as audio. It must be the older systems vs mp3 or the 650 meg limit.
