Thanks for adding the solo 64 Guitars, finishes it off beautifully, very true to the original.

Very nice, all three of you.

I don't want to put words into anybody's mouth, but I think the comment about being on the "same stage" may refer to the vocals and guitar not being in the same sonic space.  The vocals are distant due to the mega delay/reverb that's going on, and the guitar is pretty dry.  Maybe there's a happier medium between the two, but I really enjoy the tune as it stands now.

Collaborations are one of the coolest things about this site and the people who inhabit it.

Once again, great job.

Ok now I got it.  LIke I said kind of new at the mixing stuff.  Does this mean that when Ronniejm sent me the file and I put it in my Br that I could have added reverb etc. to his guitar  to make it match better? I still have it in there so maybe I will try that. Thanks so much.

It's not about being better, it's just different.

In this case, I would like to hear the guitar and the voice to appear as if they were together in the same room with acoustics the same for each instrument. 'Drier' refers to less reverb, some call the opposite wetter.

Varying the ambience can change the sound of things from being distant to very intimate.

my thanks to all for the comments

Flash,

thanks for your comments on the mix, it is always good to hear what other people "hear", and learn from it.

I always think my guitar sounds best "au natural" straight from soundhole to lughole as it were, with only the natural reverb of the room I am playing in, and no other jiggery pokery in between. I have tried many different effects but always seem to end up back at that natural sound.

So I always tend to record DRY and add a touch of reverb to the playback, I think in my excitement at wanting to hear Wileys vocals on this, I forgot to do the reverb bit.

Wiley added a bit of reverb and delay to her vocal track to enhance the "dreamy" quality in the song, and I think the combination of both these, has, as you say somewhat "seperated" the tracks.

Wiley is going to add the missing reverb to the guitar track and remix, It will be interesting to compare the result.

cheers

Lovely collaboration! And good to see you back, Ronnie. Your playing is as sublime as ever.

This is really nice, looking forward to hearing a remix, I think this would help. Wiley, have you ever listened to the Cowboy Junkies? Your voice has a similar quality to Margo Timmins on this one.

Cheers,

Finesse. What a refreshing collab. Good work, all. Somehow I buzzed by this one by accident. Glad I ran across it.

Here's a remix of "Dream River".

I tried to improve the sound of the guitar by adding a bit of reverb (send level 42) and boosting the highs a bit (+10dB at 1.0kHz). I also added a bit of EQ to the vocal track (+3dB at 1.0kHz) and set the reverb send to 0. I would have liked a bit of reverb on the vocals, but I found that it was too much when combined with the delay effect which was recorded in the vocal track.
