Here's one I've been writing for a few days and got round to recording late last night.

It's just two layers of acoustic (12-string and 6-string), mingling with the sound of the sea.

I'm posting the lyrics because they're a bit 'wordy' and hard to decipher in places, lol.

OUR ENGLISH COASTS

Walking where the samphire grows
With the seagulls trading insults on the wing
It's supposed to be our summer
But the sunshine hasn't deigned to do it's thing

There's a trace of ocean on your lips
And a bramble scratch for me to kiss
The drizzle makes me want to draw you closer
Close enough to breath in all your skin

And their spell over us may have dimmed
But they're our English coasts

The former faded glory of this town
Has seen a generation turn to drink
It's supposed to be our summer
But the sunshine hasn't deigned to do it's thing

The pennies on the cakewalk never drop
And all my nails are bitten to the quick
The drizzle makes me want to draw you closer
Close enough to breath in all your skin

And their spell over us may have waned
But they're our English coasts

Everything turns to rust in the salty air
But don't close your heart
Like the boarded-up cafes there....

How do you do it? Every one is fresh and new and wonderful.

Fantastic stuff.

I love the wistful feel of this. It's captured the sense of faded glory and wet sundays on the beach. It's my childhood you're singing about.

Thanks mate. Nostalgic and lovely.

top notch lyric.great performance.
a follow up to "rain stopped play"
these two songs should be used in a campaign to have the british isles towed a little bit to the south.
excellent work.

Well Greeny that was another beaut!
That'll have to go on my mp3 player, as well...
I don't know how you do it... just cranking out the tunes one after
another, week after week. You are so WAY past my talents, and I believe most, if not all, the others here!
You seem to me to be John Lennon #2!
Bravo, bravo

Haven't listened to it yet because I don't have the facility to at present (I'm at a business conference down under) but jeez these lyrics are good. Just the stanza

"There's a trace of ocean on your lips
And a bramble scratch for me to kiss
The drizzle makes me want to draw you closer
Close enough to breathe in all your skin"

sent a tingle down my spine. Can't wait to hear the track.

Have you listened to Roy Harper much? This song reminds me of some of his later work. And which town inspired it?

Cheers,

Nigel

Atmospheric wonderment.  Once again, your songs take me into a parallel world for a brief time (I guess it is your world, after all, it came from you).  Superb.  This one is alive.

I am totally speechless. I don't live anywhere near a coast.  Would be wonderful to hear those sounds in person.  You are great!!
