Here is a song I put together around the idea of using a simple phrase as a pedal-point throughout. The clean guitar phrase doesn't change at all throughout the song, while everything else remains fluid.

Just an idea, that came out over a few days messing with it.

I hadn't considered the Rush aspect, but now that I think about it more... probably right.

In this song, the bass takes up with a simple follow the leader to the pedal point phrase... then goes into an arpeggio shape that moves high and low with the pedal point.

The lead guitar emulates the bass phrase in places before it ends up in the tapped phrasing.

It's fun to layer the different phrases, but as I don't read music etc... I couldn't explain why it works.
The problem with being an ear player only... I can speak-a-da-English...but I can't read and write it :)

Great song !
I like the guitar and bass playing too and keeping the riff the same all the way thru but changing the other parts is different too.
Nice work.

Oh, yes, this tune is very nice, indeed.
The counterpoint works very well. You have an excellent ear for music.

I think most musicians on Earth play their music from memory. It's a gift from nature.
Imagine the massive and fruitless search, (make that expensive) trying to find the music sheets for every song you've ever played or ever will play. Good luck with that.
