Importing SMF/MIDI songs to BR-800 and Rhythm Editor question (SOLVED)

I'm trying to get some drum tracks on the BR-800.  I have exported some Midi files from Guitar Pro.  In the Rhythm Editor manual it says to click import and select the file which doesn't bring up anything for me.  It also has a comment like "before importing make sure you save it to the BR-800 first"  or something like that.  But it does not give details on where to save it.

Am I missing something?  I thought it was as easy as dragging a midi file to a folder.   Thanks

As soon as you click the IMPORT button, you should see a standard Open dialog which will allow you to browse to the drive and folder containing your midi file and select it. Then just click the Open button to load the file into the current pattern.

What it says is "Before attempting use as a pattern, be sure to save them on the BR-800." I think it just means that, after you import the midi file into the Rhythm Editor, you should click the PATTERN WRITE button to save the pattern on the BR-800. The software knows where to save the file. All you have to do is select which pattern number you want to write it to and click the OK button. Once saved, the pattern will be available on the BR-800 for use in your arrangements.

For some reason it's coming up empty after Import.  I will keep trying and try to get some different files to trouble shoot with.  I am trying to import an entire song.  I will try a shorter clip.

Got some new drum kits installed and some of your tips in the forum help me out.  Thanks

Which operating system and version are you using?

The Open dialog should appear as soon as you click the IMPORT button. If that's not happening, it's nothing to do with the midi file, as you haven't got that far yet. It's probably an issue with your operating system. Perhaps the Open dialog is appearing behind the Rhythm Editor main window. Try moving it around the screen to see if you can find the Open dialog behind it.

Or maybe the Open dialog is appearing off-screen. After you click the IMPORT button, press Alt-space then press M and start moving the mouse around. In Windows, this will move the active window. If the active window is the Open dialog, you should be able to find it by dragging it back onto the screen with the mouse. I don't know how to do the same thing on a Mac.

Sorry, I wasn't too clear.

I was getting the open dialog but wasn't getting any beats.

Turned out that every song I picked had a guitar intro and it made it appear blank but afterwards the drums would kick in.  almost gave me a heartattack with my headphones on.

Thanks again for all of you help on here.
