Hi, I've had my BR-600 for awhile and now have a problem with the toggle wheel. If I am on, say, a preset of 100 and want to go to a preset of 2 I used to just spin the toggle and get to 2. Now it starts going down but then it reverts to the highest preset. It does this with all presets, vocal, guitar, etc. I can make it work if I go real slow but that is really time consuming. My question, should I attempt to get it repaired or put it out to pasture and look at a BR-800? I value your folks opinion, so thanks ahead of time. Craig

That's always a difficult decision with electronic equipment. There's always new gear coming out that's better and often less expensive. And the cost of repairs is often so high that it isn't worth it.

But I think you should at least make some inquiries. Call Roland and ask for an estimate on replacing the TIME/VALUE wheel. You could also ask for the names of authorized service centres in your area. These are often less expensive than Roland and you wouldn't have the additional expense of shipping.

If you find that the cost of repair just isn't worth it, you could consider taking the case apart and having a look yourself. Maybe the wheel's contacts just need cleaning with some isopropyl alcohol and a Q-tip. Or, if you're handy with a soldering iron, you could remove the wheel and try to find an exact replacement which you could then solder in.

If the cost of repair is too high and you don't want to attempt your own repair, then the BR-800 would be a great choice to replace your BR-600.

They have come down in price too, BR800 is less than £300 in uk now. Good value!

Thanks 64, I attempted to clean the contacts, they are really hard to get to but I did the best I could, it seemed to help some. The amazing thing is it still worked after I put it back together.

Craig - I have the same problem with my Time/Value wheel.  I've just been dealing with it but it is time consuming and frustrating.  Let us know if you get it resolved.

Problem solved! Picked up a can of Deoxit at Radio Shack, (not cheap), and sprayed on contacts. Works great.
