"the sandstone worn by castle winds
the moss it grows the stronghold ruined
the salt sea air it desiccates
slowly eroding this once proud place
the children climb it's broken walls
the birds make nests on it's ruptured steps
the weeds between the cobblestones
the mud filled moat is overgrown
wild flowers grow by castle winds
now overrun by the elements
the salt sea air it devastates
slowly erasing this once proud place"

Oldrottenhead

growing up in the central belt of scotland, i spent a lot of my childhood playing in old ruins, castles, churches, roman forts etc.

my house is near to the Antonine Wall.

in fact when greeny came to visit, i took him for a short walk to see some old ruins about 100 metres from my back garden.

anyway between that and watching the game of thrones on tv you get the idea for the inspiration, that and jean's fab playing.

James, it's a good thing you tell to songcrafters the history of it...
The ways of inspiration are so interesting!!!
I love ruins, castles... and scottish landscapes!

I wrote long time ago a poem in french inspired by castles, ruins :

Je rêve d'Avalon
Île... où l'on dit qu'Arthur,
Par delà les vallons,
Pansa ses blessures

Naissent en Avalon
Des lames obscures...
Un mage forgeron
Nomma Excalibur!

Je rêve d'Avalon
Se verse la bruine...
La lande, genêts blonds
Je rêve de ruines

Et d'un ocre moellon,
Témoin d'une enceinte...
Je vois l'œil du Griffon,
Flamme de ma crainte!"

Cheers

Yeh,this is cool stuff guys, great playing as always and jim's vocal paints a great picture,I personally spent my childhood leaping off large middens ,climbing drainpipes up old derlict tenements and floating on doors down the clyde, swinging off ropes from the girders of old shipyard buildings and climbing through the walls of an old local cinema awaiting demolition, ahhhh those were the days.
