Big Bad John- a parody
by songcrafter: Rata tat tat

Big John
Big John

Every mornning around nine, you could see me arrive.
at the corner off 6th and I245.
I would park on the shoulder, and head across the street.
Where everybody at the counter knew I'd be needin the key to their John.

Big John
Big John
Big Bad John
Big John

Normally I'd use the one at my home
But since this ones on my way and accustom I've grown.
My first time there, I knew right away
I'd be testing out the plumbing nearly every day.
It was remodelded by a crew from New Orleans,
That installed em in chain that served Cajun quisine.
Where a flush from the bowl and a switch of the fan,
Would send a Lousiana smeller to the promise land.

Big John
Big John
Big bad John
Big John

Then came the day when a freind of mine,
Had been in there for a while and I could her him a cryin.
Then he sarted praying and talkin real fast
Cause last nights chili was getting ready to pass in that john
He started making noises like a demon from hell,
The floor was shaking as door started to swell.
He grabbed on to something as he let out a groan
He thought giant oak tree would be comming out from below Big John

Big John
Big John
Big Bad John
Big John

And with all of his strength, he gave a mighty shove.
The cashier yelled out, 'theres some spray up above!'.
And 20 patrons ran outta that store
from disturbing noises comming from behind the door of that john
from a hundred feet away you could here the sound,
then came that rumble way down in the ground.
And as smoke and gas belched out of that stall,
Suddenly I lost the urge to go in there at all in that John.

Big John
Big John
Big Bad John
Big John

Now I never went back to that worthless pit,
I found a new place them lousiana boys recommended it.
As they were givin me directions and shakin my hand... they said
'At top of this stall, there's a big big fan, Big John'

Big John
Big John
Big Bad John
Big John.

This is fantastic! I know the original well, and you perform it brilliantly. I also love sausage, egg and cheese biscuits (have had lots in Hardee's...). A very inspired choice of cover!

:D  Good one. Well sung too. It works surprisingly well without any music. I remember the original by the late Jimmy Dean who passed away on June 13th, 2010 - almost exactly three years ago.

Haven't seen a Hardee's in many years.... Wow that brought back some memories.... When I'm running late this is my weapon of choice... I usually pay for it later...LOL.

I'm not sure, but I think this song was originally written by Johnny Cash... I just remember this was one of my favourite tunes as a wee little one!!!

A lot of people seem to think that Johnny Cash did this song. It's possible that he might have covered it but I can find no evidence of that.

According to Wikipedia, the song was written by Roy Acuff and Jimmy Dean. But "The Billboard Book of Number One Hits" by Fred Bronson doesn't mention Acuff in its history of the song. It says "The 100th number one single of the rock era was written in an hour-and-a-half on a plane ride to Nashville by a man who introduced many future country stars to the nation on his weekly television series." It then goes on to talk about Jimmy Dean and how he was flying to Nashville with only three songs to record, but it was customary back then to record four songs in a session, so he needed another. It quotes Jimmy Dean: "At that time, you recorded four sides a session. I had to do something. I had worked with a guy in summer stock named John Mentoe. He was six-foot-five and skinny as a rail, but he was the only guy in the troupe taller than me, and I used to call him Big John. It had a powerful ring to it. So I put him in a mine and killed him on a plane going to Nashville. It took me an hour-and-a-half to write."
