Might eventually need a new icon . I got these for 50 bucks but the bag won't hold air. I read some where about seasoning the bag. Anyone know anything? (admin, help with pics attached?)

Cool! I bet oldrottenhead can't wait to hear your rendition of "Loch Lomond". He loves that song. Especially the version by Runrig. ;) :D

I like the licorice stick too. Have you ever used it in a recording?

Holy Moly Hook - they are weapons of war, not an instrument. Designed to strike terror in the opposition. They are known as "the agony bag" this side of the pond, well... in England at least  ;D ;D ;D

I played a concert once, and the pipes came out, and I was in the firing line (so to speak - directly behind the pipes) - he really wasn't very good either, but loud ...... so, so loud  :o - my fillings are still loose.....

Seasoning was done by mixing honey and scotch and working a few teaspoons into the bladder to keep it pliable.
Oddly pipers used to require rather large amounts of scotch for this purpose, though very little was actually needed for the pipes themselves!

If the bag won't hold air either the chanter, drones, or mouthpiece may not be tied in properly and need to be re-tied with the waxed thread that is used.
Or worse the bladder itself may be at the end of its life, and need to be replaced (they wear out both from playing (the warm breath causes them to eventually rot),  or from drying out from lack of use.)

You will probably want a new set of reeds for both the chanter and drones too.

Best to hi-tail it to a pipers supply shop and have someone look at what is needed to make them playable again.
