Jukeboxes & Archives

The current discussions 0n Jukeboxes and Archives reminded me of a suggestion/question
I meant to ask a while ago.  Would it be a good idea to have a Jukebox which is scrollable by day
and/or allow the date to be changed to allow easier navigation through the Songcrafter historical
archives?  It would be nice to be able to go back a few weeks, months and even years at this
point to listen and see what was happening at particular times.  If there already is a way of doing
this and I'm missing it, just let me know.

Good idea. Maybe I could add a date selection button to the Latest Songs jukebox. It would still default to the current date, but then you could click a button to select a different date. I'll have to think about it. Maybe I'll come up with a better way to implement it. It probably won't be done soon because I don't have the time right now. But I'll try to keep it in mind for the future.

Thanks for the suggestion, Kenny.

Thanks 64 ... Just to add more thoughts on this ...

I usually get on a couple times a week or less and the "Latest Songs"  jukebox
only goes back 3 days ... so I can easily miss very current stuff if I don't search
around.  I also find older threads with several mixes and spend 30 or more minutes
listening and trying to find the final mix.  Seeing  a span of a few days would show
the chronological order and may lead to some cleanup for those that rather not
have some of these mixes out there and may also lead to saving some space which
I'm sure is a concern ... I don't think one would want to remove the different mixes
in the collab section because that tells a very cool story ...

Just my thoughts and opinions of course.

When I get some time, I might add an option on the Latest Songs jukebox to specify how far back it goes. Although, if I add a date option as I mentioned earlier, it might not be necessary. I'll have to think about it.

The point about multiple versions of the same song is a minor pet peeve of mine. I think there should only be one version of each song and it should be at the top of the topic in the first message. When someone makes a new mix of their song or adds something to it, they should replace the attachment in the original post with the new version. They shouldn't add it as a new (additional) attachment at the end of the topic or, worse still, as a new topic. That gets too confusing, and all those different versions are taking up space on the server when the only version most people want to listen to is the latest one. There may be exceptions, such as collabs, where it might make sense to have both the before and after versions. But in most cases, I think there should only be one version - the latest.

People often say "Hey! Where did my comment go?" or "I could have sworn I commented on this before". I'm almost certain that comments have never disappeared from the site. What's probably happening is that multiple versions of the song were posted in different topics, and they commented on a different version. Either that, or they saw the same song posted on another site and commented there. Many of our members post their songs on alonetone, The Cool-Lab, etc., as well as here at Songcrafters. And many of our members also frequent those sites. So they could easily see a song on another site and comment there. Then, when they see the same song posted at Songcrafters a few days later, they think their comment disappeared. Of course, it hasn't disappeared as it was never at Songcrafters in the first place. It's on the other site.

LOL ... I was just thinking of you about this ... because not too long ago you said this on a thread
and you were right ... because I was on and saw your comment ... then it was gone a minute later.

It's the internet ... it's not fast enough to keep up with you.
