It's Google that brought me here initially (looking for info on the MicroBR back in early summer of 2009), but it's the community and what we give to each other that's kept me here ever since.

It's simple, folks: try to give back to the community at least as much as you get. Not because you are required to, but because you want to see the site continue as a positive place where other songwriters and musicians want to be.

A well-considered comment can mean a lot to the recipient. Spread that feeling around!

Couldn;t agree more.

I said it before and I say it again. I have a sense of what it takes to run this site, I really do and I AM IN AWE. Thank you, you know who you are. Even if this site stopped tomorrow, you would have my eternal gratitude, you the men - and I thank you for all that you do! Seriously, I am in awe!

Wow
just read through every post --
and I repeat WOW!
If it were not for 64G and a lot of of the members here-
===============

I for one would probably not be making music at this minute if it wasn't for the site here and the encouragement given on the first recordings and help with the BR600--
I started songwriting when I joined here -back in 2009-something I always wanted to do -from when I started playing guitar in the early 60s
music changes -and is changing fast -so we cant all expect to be on the same track.
I post an odd recording on the site -I post it for me -cos I think its up to the standard for SC and the other members of the site. I do NOT expect members to fall over themselves to comment on what I do-when it happens I appreciate -that someone gives up their time to listen.
I have said here before -I comment on songs that -my Old ears can take in-
that does not mean I don't appreciate what other members are posting
I listen -but most times I feel I have nothing to add
but I am on the site most days -I read the discussions and take part sometimes
look at all the help and advice 64G gave me on moving on from the BR600-
I have recorded a couple of collabs with Haylie -
A person I will never meet-but think of the fact that on a site like this it is possible -and even if only Haylie and myself enjoyed making the recording -that's what it's all about
I may not comment much -may not post much -but I like this site

So I will finish with the word I started my post with.
WOW!

Bloody hell - Dont we kind of have this discussion roughly once a year?? ;D

I noticed one thing we did used to have discussions alongside the musical posts, this thread tells me we are missing the discussion element of music. This has been a popular post - forums need discussion!!

I dont know if i'm a good or bad poster but I used to try and have a listening night, Friday's usually where I tried to post a bit on other's tunes, I really need to try and do that again!

I love this place!

dublin?   mmmm.   guinness? mmmmmmmm.

i can't drink guinness anymore. well i certainly cant drink a bad pint of guinness............. but a good pint.......... cannea drink them either, unless i want one o them lost weekends....... i am not bragging  i am ashamed but i used to be able to drink a pint of guinness through a straw in under three seconds. after doing that a couple of times things would get a bit muggy but a few days later i would arrive back home , none the wiser as to where what how who why etc.

i would love to go to dublin, but there is really good guinness there. too much temptation.... apparently the barmen write your initials on the head of a pint of guinness and it stays there till the last drop.  izzat true?

You listed all of your expectations for forum behavior - some of which are sensible, like treating people with respect, and some I disagree with - like not being able to share older recordings or not saying thank you to comments. Expectations are rules of behavior no matter how you wish to frame them.

I'm sure I am basically black-listed at least among the SC core group at this point for being one of the "small percentage" of contrary people despite being very polite about it all.  And having run a couple forums and a CMS based web label I have an idea of the work you put into this. A flood of spam accounts can have a very negative affect on your day. I remember in particular one day sitting in my car in the company parking lot putting my forum into maintenance mode because spammers got in and posted a crap load of p0rn. That ended my brief experiment with email verification only membership.

To be honest I'm sorry I got involved in this conversation and I'm not going get involved publicly in the future.

What I want here is to listen to a few songs, post a few oddities and appreciate and thank the occasional comments I do get despite my neutrino-like interaction.  Some really great song smiths and performers hang out here. so its nice to visit.

in reply to everything posted after my last post

i never said anything about rules, chris posted a toungue in cheek poem about it, for levity. it was NOT in the main issues, which incidently, were not even brought up by me, but replied to and they are
1. people do not want people to post thank you's
2. complaints that there are not enough people commenting!

i have posted the most in this thread and the only thing i ever said about rules at all, is, if you do not want people thanking people, than make it a rule! that's it

and the only direct reply is about rules? totaly ignoring the 2 main talking points? really? weird!

so going on about what are rules or not is totaly irrelevant to the crux of the main 2 topics! and i repeatedly asked questions again and again staying on those main 2 topics which are completely unanswered! and replying about "rules" as if that was the main talking points here, is nothing but side tracking the real points and questions!

geeesh considering i never mentioned rules in all my long posts, that's what's really unfortunate, is not replying directly to the main 2 points of this whole topic, once it got sidetracked from bruno's original topic. and i didn't bring those 2 main points up, i replied to them again and again and again, yet no direct replies about that, and not some imagined "rules' controversay. what are people reading????

where are any harsh words about the site, about the members or about the admin, where? nowhere! all my talking points were about the 2 main subjects that were the majority of this thread! matter of fact, and i am sure now, that it was over looked or not even read, i gave praise to the site and members, my talking points have nothing to do with members nor admins nor the site.
if my direct questions were replied to instead of gladhanding each other and really trying to come to some amicable solution by some direct answers to questions, it wouldn't be all this, and even in this, shit i am not mad at anyone, why should i be?

seemed to me it is friendly and fun till these 2 subjects come up and as we have seen in other topics lke this from the past, it is not the first time they came up! that has made me decided not to even say anything the next time it comes up. like IanR, he just ignores it.

if someone knows they do not comment much and does not expect much in return and will not make a stink about it, what's the big deal? one persons lack of comments is going to bring the whole site down, really?

if bruno's topic wasn't replied as it was, i'd have not said anything and probably shouldn't have and in the future will not! especially since it isn't that big a deal to me especially when no one will even give direct answers to the 2 main issues but address it about "rules" as if that was the main topic of all this, far from!

that's fine, i'll ignore these 2 subjects unless someone actually addresses all the question on these 2 subject which are the REAL points, not rules!

i couldn't have said that better myself fenderbender, though if i like it i WANT to comment!there are different comment total numbers cause we are all different people, and some have been here longer than others and that should not be held against anyone! i feel about as exactly as you do FB! i can totaly relate! yet i seem the oddball here? hmmm!

yes burtog it has come up more than once, but i am going to assume it is meant for newer members and not just me and not even comment about it any more, when none of your legit questions or comments get a direct reply, what's the point??

so ending this topic on my part, unless i am directly replied to or asked something relevent to what the "complainers" were actually saying. i will stay away from any topic about, those against saying thanks, and not liking if people do not comment enough (as opposed to what or who?)
as i said in another comment on this topic, this site is better and more civil than many sites combined, having an issue about somenthing does not mean you do not like the site, nor that you do not like the admins or members, i mean come on!

if that is how i came off than i am very apologetic, all i was doing was speaking up for myself, said nothing about any rules, but did address the 2 main topics repeatedly without any direct replies to my questions from anyone.
that's ok, that means you drop it and let it go, unless someone does directly ask me about it, barring that, count me out on those 2 subjects when brought up again in the same ways.
i am sure many will be thrilled! :P

and none of this changes my feelings about ALL the people here on the site. at no point was i ever irate during this, just perhaps a bit over defensive! you wanted comments, man did you get them now!  ;)
