Is it me ...

Or has the activity on this site on a big downturn. May be just my perception, however there seems to be a lack of activity, posts seem to be hanging around for ages?

I appear to be number 3 on the top posters in the last 30 days - and I haven't been particularly active - which is a bit of a concern!!

Just my observation.

Yeah, activity is down a bit. With the warmer weather, everyone's probably spending more time outdoors, away from their computers and recorders.

June Daily Averages

         New Topics   New Posts
2008         1.87        10.23
2009        14.13       211.23
2010         7.83       127.33
2011         8.37       160.90
2012         7.63       100.50
2013         5.29        63.14

Of course, the 2013 figure is only based on the last 7 days. The average may improve by the end of the month.

It's interesting that the peak year was 2009, when we were strictly a Boss BR forum. Since renaming the site to Songcrafters and opening it up to anyone, regardless of the recorder or DAW they use, the activity has gradually declined. I think that's largely because we're less focused now. We have more members, but they're not interested in all of the topics so they tend to post less.

And, frankly, we seem to have a growing number of members who are only interested in their own posts and the replies to them. That's sad. Songcrafters has always been about supporting each other. But I'm seeing more and more members who only comment on other people's posts when they've got something new of their own that they want comments on. In fact, several members only login when they've got a new song to post. Between songs, we don't see them for weeks or months at a time. That's not the way it's supposed to work. People should login regularly and listen to and comment on other members' song posts, regardless of whether they have any new songs themselves.

Don't be selfish, folks. Support your fellow songcrafters. Be an active member of this community. Don't just visit and comment when you've got a new song. Visit regularly and comment on other people's songs. And take part in discussions. This isn't just a song-posting site. We're a home recording forum and discussion about all aspects of home recording is welcome.

Yip - totally agree with that sentiment. Well said 64Guitars! Hopefully I've been a good citizen, listening to other people's work critically has helped my own work enormously - and collaboration on this site still blows me away. I always say with small local businesses, use them or lose them - this is true of this site. If we don't support this in the right way, if will withers and dies. If it does, it will be too late. So all, get commenting, get posting - it is the only way! The stats speak for themselves!

of late work , life, work etc has pretty much taken over my life and i am not as active a listener as i would like to be, any spare time i get, i try write a song and block spammers. i know a lot of our regular and stalwart members are in a similar boat.
uno that song "a chorus a verse and a tune you can hum" has a line "there's not enough time in the day" my life and a few others i know on here are like that right now. that said that's always gonna happen. and our teensy weensey little village has grown a lot so is maybe a bit less personal than it was in the past.

so my tuppence worth. when someone comments on your songs. there is no need to reply on same thread to say thanks. that is a given. but listen to someone else's song and comment on that. have a look in the overlooked gems and you will find some gold dust that is in need of a few comments. anyway im gonna shut up i have been drinking but suffice to say "i fucking love this place"

One word......Collaberations, I love the fact that other songwriters on this site collaberate with others ,although I do like to say thanks,it's a personal choice so I have no problem with that as long as the person is active in other areas such as collaberating and commenting on others,I wouldn't take that away from anyone as its good manners to show your appreciating the comments someone has taken the time to put in so I wouldn't take that choice away from anyone.
I respect the members of this site enough to aproach them if I feel they can help me or I can help them.
Since joining this site I have collaborated with so many talented dudes it makes me so proud of this site and also Im in awe of Mr 64 for the work he has put in to this amazing site so well done sir ,your a star.
And,,,,,,,IVe not been drinking. (On taxi duty  ;D )

Rules

And the rule said "if you don't listen to our music you need not post"
So I tucked my Sibelius up under my hat and I went in to ask him why
He said "we are a support group, I think that's the reason why"
So I took off my hat, I said "Imagine that. Music meant to be unpopular on your site!
Whoa-oh-oh

Rules, rules, everywhere a rule
Blockin' out the camaraderie, breakin' my mind
Do this, don't do that, can't you read the rules?

And the post said anybody caught not listening would be shamed on the site
So I jumped on the fence and-a yelled at the house,
"Hey! Why is the glass always half-empty at songcrafters?

"To put up rules to force me like this, it feel like I'm back in school"
"what happened to the anarchy rock n rollers who inhabit this site?"

Rules, rules, everywhere a rule
Blockin' out the camaraderie, breakin' my mind
Do this, don't do that, can't you read the rules?

Now, hey you, mister, can't you read?
You've got to listen and comment on 10 songs before you should post
You ain't wanted, no you can't share
You ain't supposed to be here
The rules said you have to comment to be a friend here....

And the site said, "nobody's welcome unless you are gonna listen and comment"
Then they passed around the post
that talked about the people they thought didn't comment enough....

So I got me some nerve up and responded what what really I thought
Figuring I'll be banned

Rules, rules, everywhere a rule
Blockin' out the camaraderie, breakin' my mind
Do this, don't do that, can't you read the rules?

And in the end
The listens you get
is equal to the listens you give....

So what's the problem?

Anybody who wants a forum without rules is welcome to create one.

Good luck with that.

you'd be mistaken if you think I never hosted a forum.

The only rules we followed were the ones the government forced upon us.

But this place isn't mine - you can obviously do what you want.

Posts like this, however, come across as a negative, which I am pointing out.

Vaisvil

no doubt it would be easier if I'd just shut up and conform.
