most days i rattle out a couple of songs, time permitting. but this is the first new one since april the 21st.

i deliberately set out not to record or write anything new for as long as i could. in the hope that when i did resume writing. my songs would be fresh and a bit different. well that was the idea. does that make sense?

maybe the words will explain it better than i can.

it's a bit rough but played from the heart.

i've been taking time away
contemplating
doing things a different way
so i stepped back
and i tried
to not do anything
for as long as i could
and it proved harder than i thought
the pull of the strings
and the draw of the words
i struggled hard to bite my lip
but the bubble burst
and my fingers slipped

and now i fret
as i play
unsure i've changed direction
or if i'm just repeating myself
and what if
everything's been said
and elvis leaves the building
saying rock and roll is dead

two star crossed lovers
go to sleep
dreaming dreams
that we could never imagine
we just get older
and decay
what once where words of wisdom
are now just nonsense rhymes
and now i fret
as i play
unsure i've changed direction
or if i'm just repeating myself
and what if
everything's been said
and elvis leaves the building
saying rock and roll is dead

Now that's a song, Mun.   :r2

Searching and Vulnerable...... Painful yet Optimistic
Truly emotional.

Ps.
TIME OFF
I do sort of the same thing but during my time off I allow myself to think about one song only.
I'm still listening to everything but focusing my creative energy on only one. BORING

I put it on a play list and listen to it, on and off for days and weeks.
Checking that every word is supporting every feeling I intend every line to convey.

The answer is usually a resounding... NO.

So I find myself in a perpetual state of rewriting.
Searching for the most perfect way to convey the core emotions of the song, by exploring the core emotions of each line.

A new journey begins

** WARNING **
Careful mate. This is some serious shit you're stepping into.
Not a lot of fun. Takes up a lot of time. Not much to show for your efforts, as far as volume goes.
But Brother, when it clicks, you can feel it and folks that hear it, feel it.

cheers nelson, i stayed away from writing altogether. then after my break, this was written and recorded almost spontaneously, with no thought or preparation, as per usual for me.

I don't mind if you repeat yourself. All great artists do that.
