Seriously.

Regarding the splitting of the forum by genre, I prefer a one-stop shop.

An alternative suggestion that would work is:  An extra column in the existing table where contributers could "classify" or categorize their work.  If it's limited to a list, we could sort and filter on it.  (Just as long as there's an "Other" category).

I would also like it if the posts didn't move around, but stayed put no matter how many comments they received.  It would be easier to keep up to date if they were ordered by the date of the original post by default.

Now I'm done being serious.

So, if you click on Show unread posts since last visit and it lists 25 unread messages, for example, and you read 5 of those messages then click on Show unread posts since last visit again, it will list the remaining 20 messages (plus any new ones that might have come in). Try it!

I gave it a quick try before my last post and it didn't appear to work that way - the list went from about 20 down to 1 when I logged off and logged back on again. But let me double check, as it was only a quick test. It makes sense to work this way if it works the way you say.

Don't worry, it wasn't you - xicpanad followed up your post with a serious proposal for a monthly competition. Perfectly resonable for him so to do, but several folks have said that's not how they would like to see the forum go.

Cheers,

You can sort the messages by clicking on the column headings. If you click on the "Last post" heading, they'll sort by date. Clicking the column heading again will toggle it between ascending and descending order. It sounds like you may have clicked on the "Replies" or "Views" column heading at some point, so the message order is changing based on the number of replies or views. Try clicking on the "Last post" column heading.

Also, you can set your profile so that messages within a topic will be shown in descending date order (newest messages at the top). Click on PROFILE then "Look and Layout Preferences". Check the box next to "Show most recent posts at the top".
