Damn.  No the action is really not that low (I'd like it lower), so it may just be the "cheapness" of the bass. I'm gonna be taking it to a buddy for a set-up... maybe he can do something.

Thanks

Most of the stuff I do, I use an outboard compressor and no effect.
I usually tweak about with the pickup mix and the tone settings on my guitar and alter the compressor.

I find this easier than fiddling about with the MBR to be honest. A recorded bass and a live bass are two different animals. You can't shake your insides around with an MBR. I go for presence on the MBR which means a fast attack and a long sustain. It can be done.

The thing about a bass is that it adds mostly to the percussion of a piece. Timing is most important. You need to be absolutely bang on, which I seldom am.

i'm doing everything straight into the MBR or thru my UX-1 into the MBR and find the bass the most elusive sound to work. probably just another one of those "that looks so easy" aspects of the bass.

flash - you're being far to modest about your bass licks. when it comes to hitting the mark, you've got the accuracy of William Tell.  ;)

I only just got my MBR, but find a lot of the effects can be handy for bass.  Too bad theres no filter effects in this thing for that autowah type sound.  :)

BTW, I liked your track!

Hi guys

I too have just bought a new bass and wonder if all you bass players can give us newbies any tips and tricks.  While learning I am just using the bass clean setup on my M-BR.

Mine is a passive unit which I think just uses its own pickup to collect the sound (I think) as opposed to the active unit.

I'd say, listen to the Who, John Entwhistle was a great bass player. Learn some of their stuff. You can use the MP3 utility on the MBR to play along to. You'll soon get the hang of it.

Remember that the bass is a percussion instrument, listen to the bass drum, it's all about rhythm and solidity, unless you're a Jaco Pastorius, then it's a killer device  ;D

The Micro BR is great for sharpening your playing and that's how I cleaned up my bass playing.  I just found a pattern that I liked and kept making up different chord progressions.  I started by just hitting the root and stayed there until my timing was a lot sharper and then ventured into the 1-5 and then I felt a whole lot better about playing my own basslines.  I'd never call myself a bass player but I don't worry so much about making up my own rhythm tracks now.  And it helps the guitar playing a lot because I know where the bottom end is and I don't have to double that in the guitar chords.  I think what I like best about it is that I now think of bass as coming up from the bottom of the register and the guitar melody as coming down from the top.  You have to love the Micro BR.  It not only helps you play better but it helps you think the music better. I suppose that happens with any recording but I never really recorded myself until I started using a Micro BR.

I also just bought a bass. (dark blue Fender P-bass for $150 - off Craig's List) I really like it, nice, low action for my as yet soft guitar finger pads, but no buzz.
Bass really is a different animal but the groove is exciting. No amp yet, just the MBR. I got it for adding bass to my own songs..
Thanks for the tips above guys. This will be fun.

I think that loads of the guitar effects actually sound great with my bass, so I just use all of them even if they are 'meant' for guitar
