It's always best to initialize a new card in the BR before you start using it. However, if you get the "Unsupported Card" error as soon as you turn the BR on, then you might not be able to access the Utility menu to do the Initialize. In that case, put the card in your card reader and copy the following command to a DOS prompt:

format j: /fs:fat /v:BOSS_BR-600 /a:16k

where "j:" is the drive letter Windows assigned to your card reader (be sure to substitute the correct drive letter for your system - you don't want to format a hard drive by mistake!).

Once it's formatted, put the card in the BR. If you no longer get the "unsupported card" error, then let the BR do a proper Initialization. Otherwise, there's probably not much else you can do, so just use the card in some other device and only use 1GB cards in your BR.

Did 2G card(s) work? Did formatting it using the BR-600 fix the problem? I know the BR-600 can only access 1G of memory. At the low prices for 2G cards (and lack of avalability of 1G cards) I'd like have a few spare cards even if that means only using half their capacity.

Hey guys, i've had great luck with the 1gb version of these cards, the Sansdisk Ultra II. You can get 4 for under $20 on eBay. I ended up buying an 8 pack for about $36. Totally worth it, and completely compatible... Like 64G said, just format them using the recorder first (and not the PC.)

Does anyone have a good method of labeling these tiny little buggers? I suppose one of those label makers would work pretty well but havent tried. I'm using random symbols with a sharpie and i just know things will get confusing...

dang, answering my own question... Read over in the MBR forum that folks have sucessfully been using 2gig cards. The BRs can only address 1gig of space of course, but 2gig cards are plentiful and inexpensive.

Yep, you are right.  My 2GB Lexar does not work - the BR-600 would not initialize it.  I don't have a card reader to try 64guitars PC format suggestion. So the 1GB Sansdisk ultra II cards I bought off ebay (as hewhoiscalledj suggested) will hopefully arrive soon...

Well, I've had success just taking a Sharpie and labeling the cards "A", "B", "C", etc. Then on a piece of paper, I'd essentially make a track sheet with columns for each card "A", "B", "C", etc.  I've long suspected I am indeed dumber than I look, and turns out I might be right because the simple act of writing it down would make me remember what was on each card.
Good luck.

Funny how i didnt think of using letters and numbers, or tracking them on a sheet. Only reason I have so many was that I use each one for an entire jam/rehearsal session. This takes up maybe 3 hours of space but I use the remainder for mastering WAV files. It takes a bit of time to listen to a 3 hr track and then seperate it out into individual Virtual Tracks for each song/clip. I have the mastering process down since I've saved my Master Settings but I'm always behind on saving the tracks. I'd hate the idea of having to run out to practice without enough space on my SD cards so I ponied up my $36 for 8 of them... adding to the 4 i already had, that's 12gb.

i'd like to create somekind of container/filing system for these little cards but for now it all goes into a cheap little tin. i'm not the most organized person so...
