Hi everybody, I'm new to the forum so be gentle.I have a problem, I got a br micro last week and I am very impressed but, being a Yorkshireman I purchased a replacement power supply, not the boss one.Anyway to cut the story short pfft noise burning smell,no power .I put the batteries back in, fired up and everything works as it should. The power supply works ,I checked it with a multimeter, its sound so the problem is with the micro.I can use a soldering iron ,do you think there might be a quick fix or is it batteries for forever?
Cheers in advance JD.

Unfortunately, though there's probably only one or two inexpensive parts burned out, you can't replace them unless you can determine what their values were. I've never seen any schematic diagrams or service manuals around for the Micro BR, so I don't know how you can determine the correct value of the burned out parts. Unless, of course, you can take apart a working Micro BR and determine the value of the corresponding parts.

It might be worth contacting Roland service to find out how much it would cost to repair it. Though, it might be cheaper to buy a new one off eBay. Maybe using batteries from now on is the best solution (cheapest, easiest, safest). A lot of people use rechargeable batteries in their Micro BR. If you have two sets of NiMH batteries, you can always have one set charged up and ready to use.

It's always best to use the Boss PSA adapter. If you use a different one, then you have to make sure that it's a regulated power supply and of the correct polarity and voltage. I think the mistake that many Micro BR users have made is in using an unregulated power adapter in which the voltage can vary greatly, resulting in a fried Micro BR. This doesn't happen with the Boss PSA adapter because it's regulated to keep the voltage fairly consistent. Given the potential for disastrous results when using an unsuitable AC adapter, I always recommend buying the Boss PSA adapter. They're really not that expensive, and any small amount you might save by buying a different adapter isn't worth the risk.

If it's any consolation, you're not alone. I've heard of many Micro BR users who have fried their BR by using the wrong AC adapter.

Welcome denosaur !!

To bad about the power supply input, but it won't be a big problem. 95% of all my recordings done on the microBR (and now MBR80) has been done on rechargeable batteries. Just keep an eye on the battery indicator and make sure you don't run out of juice while recording and you'll be fine!

Looking forward to hear your music !
