Update: It's now finished and I went with a guitar solo and added an additional rhythm guitar.

Here's my latest song idea. It's in the demo stages and not finished yet. It still needs the solos and whatever else that might go in.  My immediate urge was to finish it off with some harmonica and a lead guitar solo (still may) but I decided to live with it a bit to see if any other ideas popped up. It's a high energy rocker with Zoom drums, Tele rhythm guitar, Jazz bass, and vocals, all by me.

Green Light

(V1) Our eyes locked from across the street ( D, C)
She's on the corner for me to meet                (D, A/G)
I think my luck is getting better                        (D,C)
She looks fine in that red sweater                  (D, A/G)

When is this light going to change? (E, G)
I'm all agitated and feelin' deranged          (E, A)
Give me a signal to start walking    (G)
I need a chance to start talking            (A)

(Chr) I need a green light! (D, C,G)
I need a green light!          (D)

(V2) She passed me by like I wasn't there
Maybe it was my love crazed stare
Oh well tomorrow is another day
I know she's gonna be comin'  this way

A different strategy is in order
If I have any chance to court her
Here I am at that same stupid light
I need to improve my plight

(Chr) I need a green light!
I need a green light!

(solo break in A, D, E, E, G, A ) (Chorus)

(V3) It took some doing but we did meet
She's a real lady and very discreet
We went out on our very first date
To my surprise we ended up at her place

The conversation was easy, not forced
Sparks were flying and I knew the course
Now I'm not much in that baseball zone
But I rounded third base and headed for home

(Chr 2x) I've got the green light!
I've got the green light!

Cool tune with loads of potential, real feel good stuff... I love everything you have here...

If it were me, i would pan the hell outta that guitar either duplicate the guitar and pan full left and full right..(then i'd look into moving one of them out of time) or even better, play the same thing again, but with that track going in to the lead break panned one way, the other track the other...

Also I'd get some big soul voices doing a mowtown like thing on the chorus... backing style.... "Greeeeeeeeeen lighta!"""
kinda like what you have but imagine the alabama ghospel choir! :P

Only how i hear it in a perfect world...

Really good tune though bro, i have a mate that is a bit of an 80's rocker, massive Lynott fan, he'd love this. I'm already on my 3rd listen :)

Thanks Daniel. Those are some great ideas with the panned duplicate guitar and the gospel singers. I'll see what I can come up with.

Thanks!

Great song, Farrell. The music reminds me a bit of early Rush.

+1 - yeah Fly By Night - defo Alex Lifeson's sound on that album, and his style of guitar playing. Was expecting Geddy to start sing. Real nice song and sounds.

Thanks Bruno, 64, Geir, and gnasty. The only Rush songs I've ever heard are their radio hits. I've not owned an album or set out to learn any of their songs. You all have me curious now with the comments about my guitar sound or style in this song sounding like early Rush. I'm going to go check out some early Rush performances on youtube. Hopefully I'll have some time to finish this song up next week. Thanks again!
