Well it's week 2 of the songwriting course and we are looking at the number of lines (even and uneven) in verse, chorus, bridge etc amongst other things. Don't be put off by the intro!

Oh Litlr, internal mics . . .

Easy peasy lemon squeezy is a childish saying (originating from a washing-up liquid advert in the 70s) - The phrase itself makes no real sense, it just means easy to do  :D

Easy Peasy Lemon Squeezy – Hilary Fox 17.3.13

I'm floating on a cloud of marshmallows
watching the world go by
I'm floating on a cloud of marshmallows
Watching my life drift by

Chorus
It's easy peasy lemon squeezy
With nothing very much to do
It's easy peasy lemon squeezy
Just sitting here waiting for you

Why am I waiting so patiently?
What's gonna happen to me?

I'm sitting on a cloud of marshmallows
Watching the years go by
I'm sitting on a cloud of marshmallows
Watching my chance drift by

The chance to say I love you
The chance to say I want you
The chance to say I need you
The chance to say . . .
You'll always be mine

I'm sitting on a cloud of marshmallows
Watching my life drift by
I'm sitting on a cloud of marshmallows
Watching you go by

Chorus

It's just so easy peasy wheezy wheezy
Bright and breezy wheezy wheezy
Lemon squeezy

hi - ylie! seems that you're keeping good advice from your lessons (and the poit that i dont see where is a sign that I'm not undestanding 'em yet ;_). but I love the song, I find the lyrics are very strong, and I like the dramatic contrast between the sad situation and the kinda happy and easy childish saying, and the cloud of marshmellows LOL. lovely

Oh thank you, what lovely things to say. The point's very subtle and I only changed a few words to my original song -

Verse 4 lines - even/stability
Verse 5 lines - uneven/unstable

I put in a 5 line bridge (unstable, suggests movement)
and added an extra, longer line to the final chorus (to spotlight the message)

Also tried to shorten the second line in the first bridge (suggests incomplete, forward motion)

I don't like being told what to do, so I'll do what I like anyway  ??? but the course is really interesting and I am thinking about the points they make when I write.

The marshmallows are pink - by the way  ;D

. . . didn't I read somewhere that you've written a book on songwriting? If it ever gets translated, I'd love to read it.

Very nicely put together Haylie. I can definitely hear your application of your lessons and it does really tighten up the tune. Nice, concise melodies & I like the hook. Your progressions transition very nicely also.. well done!
Rock on!

I like this a lot, a Haylie! Love the piano and your voice on this.

We have "easy peasy lemon squeezy" here in New England, too. Not sure if it's of advertising origin, or just a good rhyme that kids have such a knack for. :)

I love your tunes when you sing and play guitar, but the piano tunes are fantastic, too! Really good job on each department, again!

Hi Haylie, bit late getting to this one but glad I did. I don't know anything about the theory of song writing, I just fly by the seat of my pants and what comes, comes. This comes across as well crafted and written so it must be working. Nice one............... Willie
