Saturday Night's Alright For Telly

Verse

Its almost 6, time for tea and twix
Its gonna be some night no doubt
Now its almost seven and I'm in heaven
Just waiting for a carry out

The wife gets so prickly till she gets to see Strictly
Though Brucie's well and truly shot
I've never been a lover of Celebrity Big Brother
But X Factor really gets me hot

Chorus

Don't care much if I see "The Killing"
And all these Danish bodies maimed
I'm happier with Harry Hill's TV Burp
Following You've Been Framed

Then I have to finish off with Match Of The Day
But I can't decide what's actually worse
Alan Hansen's dulcet tones or Lauro's jokes
Or Alan Shearer's taste in shirts

In shirts, In shirts oooooooooooooo  woooooooooooooooooo

Verse

The National Lotto always gets me going
But I could do without Davina McCall
Casualty and Doc Martin really leave me cold
They do little for me at all

Live At The Apollo I avidly follow
That's not the same with Top Gear
An overpaid weenie in a Lamborghini
Dear Oh Dear Oh Dear Oh Dear.....

Chorus

Don't care about seeing The Killing
And all these Danish bodies maimed
I'm happy with Harry Hill's TV Burp
Following You've Been Framed

Finishing off with Match Of The Day
But I can't decide what's worse
Alan Hansen's dulcet tones or Lauro's jokes
Or Alan Shearer's taste in shirts

In shirts, In shirts oooooooooooooo  woooooooooooooooooo

This song sounds like an original composition.

I'm familiar with Elton John's music and this does not sound like Saturday Night's Alright.

Am I wrong in my assessment?

SD- you're quite right, I wanted it to be a tribute but be as near as possible to the original without risking any legal ramifications.

I think you've hit your goal of staying out of any legal problems with this because I don't hear any similarities to E.J.'s Saturday Night's Alright at all. It's very much an original composition to my ears....so rest easy.

Grimbo, if you change even one note in a song, it is no longer the same as the original. Same for vocals.
This came up in a court case many years ago and that was the judge's ruling.

This is basically how computer manufacturers got around be sued by IBM and still produced a working computer.
IBM put their OS on chips and all the other companies loaded their OS on a hard drive, which they still do to this day.
Same OS, same hardware functions but enough difference to avoid being sued. So said the court.

Apple just lost their case against Samsung when they tried to get the court to block sales of Samsung's smart phones in the US. Apple claimed Samsung violated their technology by using pinch and expand gestures. Probably more to it
then that, I'd imagine. The court ruled against Apple. Greedy bastards.

If they could get away with that, then I'm going to patent eye blinking. Every time the human race blinks their eyes
they must pay me one cent. Accountants are going to come to hate keeping track of this nightmare.

Microsoft attempted to patent the word "Windows", even though windows have been around since man stopped
living in caves.

Play your songs as you wish. You are not profiting from them. Think about all the bands playing covers in nightclubs and other public venues. I heard Jimi Hendrix play some of Eric Clapton's music in a live performance.
No one tried to sue him for it.
