I have seldom subscribed
To the aerosol notion
That prophets and prelates
Lurk about subways,
Or frequent the walls
Of a terrified nation
Delivering guidance
Through rejection and paint.

My theory is merely
Borne of experience:
'Angie's a slapper', or
'Robbo is Gay' -
And 'Sid still lives' (apparently),
According to the paint
Sprayed on conviction and
Supermarket doorway.

Alongside my songwriting, I also love poetry writing, sometimes even more. To me, there's just something extremely rewarding about the power of pure word-craft and how it can convey an idea or message totally by itself, without the accompaniment of sound. I wrote this today after coming home from a nature walk, it's called "Pane." I'll leave the interpretations to you. Enjoy.

EDIT: I've attached the image to this post for download if the text below is too small to see  :-\

Darling lucas

hey
darling lucas
dont you know my name

hey
darling niki
dont you know my face

I'm your father, sons
long time - gone
to earn enough to live

when the times got hard
I had to part
and that's the way it is

hey
darling lucas
you're a grown up man

hey
darling nikki
you are my sweet little girl

I'm so proud of you
how you get trough
a time that isnt fair

just to hear you pa'
on a distance call
I know is not the same

...

hey
darling lucas
did ya win that game?
hey
darling nikki
what about your boyfriend?

how I wish someday
I could fly away
just fly myself back home

may it be next year
if I work that deal
may our parted days be gone ...

Timmy the Toad - written for my son (he's 10) and into origami (bits of paper everywhere!) - he wanted to design a pop-up book for Children.

Timmy the Toad

Timmy the toad was a tiny little thing
he couldn't even squeak
he longed to fit in with the other animals
he longed to be able to speak

The other animals used to laugh at him
They called him Timmy the Tongue-tied Toad
So Timmy went on an adventure
And he legged it down the road

It was there he first saw Tabatha
She was such a beautiful creature
She didn't mind that Timmy was quiet
She thought it was his best feature

One day, Tabatha met a big black cat
She was in such terrible danger
Timmy wanted to protect his love
So he leapt out, to try and save her

When he opened his mouth to give a squeak
Out came a little splutter
Then an enormous . . . C-R-O-A-K
The big black cat, she did scatter

Now Timmy and Tabatha talk all day
They are full of constant chatter
Proof that if you love someone
Nothing else should really matter

:D

Here's a cheery little ode - just hot off the press . . .

Tick tock, tick tock, tick tock tick – Hilary Fox 12.2.14

One more bridge burnt
One more could have been, never gonna be
One more endless impossibility

So sink or swim
Do or don't
Sit and wait
Sit and wait
Sit and wait for endless eternity

Time's a great healer but time passes so slowly
The minutes stretch by
The hours stretch by
The years fly by
So slow
So very slow

Tick tock, tick tock, tick tock tick
My grandfather's clock was too tall for the shelf
So it stood on it's own in the corner
Tick tock, tick tock, tick tock tick
40 years, on it's own in the corner

So different from the previous, but so great ..,

I may not be the best judge of English poetry, but I love this :)

This one's made it 10 minutes into another day . . .

How very sad – Hilary Fox 13.2.14

How very sad
They all said
As the curtains closed
She will be greatly missed
But did they stop to grieve, no
Did they pause one single second, no
As her days and nights continued undisturbed
unloved, unkissed

Yes they showed up for a day
One out of 365
Duty done, conscience clear
Let's say a prayer and wipe away
a crocodile tear
How very, very sad
My dear
