I discovered that my kids would rather learn from someone else so I didn't teach her much to start with. I have to admit i'm not much good as a teacher and don't really have the patience so she didn't really get going till her school started up group lessons. She was lucky to get a spot as she was in 2nd grade and they usually only allow 3rd grade and up but she already had a guitar so they let her start. After only about 8 or 10 weeks she was so far ahead of the 6th graders the lessons were wasted so we thought we'd better get her a proper guitar teacher. She went to him every second week from June last year till December . She's stuck with me at the moment :o as we've moved towns.

LOL... Now I'm kinda screwed  ;)

My lil one (justed turned 9) watched her play the whole song, and I won't have a choice but to try to teach her now. She (as was the wife) was floored, and now I'm shopping for a 3/4 size. (Is that what yours is playing??)

I will teach her on an electric... I will not make her go through the cheap acoustic (with sky-scraper action) like I did. It can be so discouraging, and hard on new fingers.

Good show, and yeah... you better post up too  8) we're all friends here.

The electric is definitely the way to go. My girl was doing quite well on the classical acoustic but she really couldn't bend strings as they would just roll and barre chords were extremely difficult.

When we went to get her little sisters 1/2 size pink guitar i spied the 3/4 size electric, got her to have a play and she didn't want to give it back. She was saving all her pocket money for a Nintendo DS at the time and ended up buying the guitar herself instead. To say i was happy with that decision is an understatement. She didn't quite have enough money for the whole package so i bought the amp for her.

It is an Ashton brand guitar. They are designed in Australia and made in China. There is a lot of varience in the build quality so check each instrument for how straight everthing is. Some time also needs to be spent setting up the adjustments on the bridge to get everything right and even then getting it spot on is near impossible but for a youngster, and the price, they are quite good. Your profile doesn't say where you are from but over here (Austalia) we got it for $250 in a package with a half decent 10W amp and gig bag. At current exchange rates that should work out about US$100 or about 20pounds in England ::) :D

Here is the guitar.

The little amp in that package is crap so we got the next one here
