Video converter from .MOV to .AVI

Hi guys - can anyone recommend a video converter file, I need an .mov file converted to an .avi file

(alternatively a good video editing software package that will edit .mov files)

I've been using Miro to convert files to mp4 then editing in Photoshop premier elements
