Quote from: Willie Wendon on February 11, 2013, 11:46:22 AMResponses to my last few posts have not been as good as I would have hoped and I can only put that down as a failure on my part. I therefore need to rethink where I want to go musically and hopefully I can come back with a few better posts.

It's only a failure if getting lots of comments was part of your goal in creating your music. But I don't think it should be. Sure, it's nice to get lots of positive feedback on our music, but we shouldn't create music with that as our goal. Instead, we should make music purely for ourselves. If other people like it too, that's great. But don't get discouraged if you think that others aren't interested. Be true to yourself and make music that you like. If you like your music then it's a success. Keep posting the music that you're happy with and let the comments fall where they may. Don't change what you do in an attempt to appeal to the masses.

Also, as others have said, there are lots of reasons why posts don't get comments. So a lack of comments doesn't necessarily mean that people don't like your songs.

And don't forget that everyone has different tastes in music. The number of comments probably says more about our members' tastes than it does about the quality of the songwriting and performance. So, for example, if you post mostly country music, you shouldn't be disheartened if the metalheads don't show their appreciation (and vice-versa).  :)

Keep posting and don't worry about the number of comments. It's not a measure of the quality of your work.

Couldn't agree more 64 (crikey!) and Willie, your songs are always great - don't change a thing.

Willie... I agree with everyone else. Don't beat yourself up buddy. You've got serious talent. I would consider you a master at production. I always enjoy listening to your posts even if I don't get around to commenting. Like Hook I often download to my phone but somehow forget to come back and comment on the song... So yes that's a failure on my part not yours... It's a shame we can't have enough time in the day to do all the things we want to, I wish I could... but the reality is there simply isn't enough time. Try not to let it frustrate you... I'm sure there are people out there that have never heard an ACDC song... Not because they are a bad band or have failed in some way, but simply because they've never been afforded the time to listen.

I can only echo what other folks has already said. If you have the time and the inclination, keep making music, and keep posting it - I wanna hear it :)

The way I look at comments is this: YES, they do matter, I like being popular. BUT, if I don't get as many as I hoped for on a particular song, it's no biggie. It could be all manner of things, and I'd be wasting my time and emotional energy trying to figure out what it was. I just plough on with the next thing (which I have to do anyway, for myself, if nothing else). I plough on with a kind of "well, I'll just have to show em THIS time, then they might listen to the other one as well..."

Kinda works for me (and keeps me sane-ish :D)

EDIT: Immediately after posting a song, I always have a day or two of continually checking out how it's doing here and on alonetone (mainly there, cos that's where mine are hosted). It can kind of stop me creating. After a couple of days I settle down to the Warhol quote above - "While they are deciding, make even more art".

When I have a poo, it makes me very happy. I really like pooing. I especially like the feeling of well being after the poo has left my body. I also don't care what anyone else thinks of my motion. I'm just thankful that it's not inside me anymore.

Keep playing that rock and roll, Willie. Do it for the sheer love of music. That is what I do.

I plan on playing for my own funeral. Live.

That ought to be just a bit scary for some folks.

Hey Willie,
Don't worry - its the same of us all. I love this site for all the music that it creates, and I apologise if I sometimes don't comment - sometimes I simply don't have the time. It must be the time of year of something, but activity does appear to be down (is that just me?).

For me, music is my love - but it comes second to working, family, Mr Teenage Daughters Free and Prompt Taxi service and the endless jobs around the house (I have some catching up to do!).

That said, it is just about my 1 year anniversary from joining this site. My goal when I joined for 2012 was to produce 10 tracks, cos I had gear and didn't seem to be doing very much with it. 60 or 70 odd tracks later (lost count), and a (uh-hum) somewhat large layout on additional gear (GAS), and some great (well in my opinion) collabs particularly with Hook, Tod and Frank, I can say hand on heart, I wouldn't have missed this for the world.

At the moment, kinda going through "one of those fazes" - but hey-ho it will pick up. So Willie, stick at it, its not you or what you do, its just one of those periods.

Take it easy
