Lurk Mode

Started by The Gobi Desert Canoe Club, February 11, 2013, 11:46:22 AM

Hi all, just to let you know I'm going into lurk mode for a while. Responses to my last few posts have not been as good as I would have hoped and I can only put that down as a failure on my part. I therefore need to rethink where I want to go musically and hopefully I can come back with a few better posts. Regards Willie

Hey, Willie! You have to be careful with beating yourself up about comment volume on here. It works in strange ways, with people being too busy to listen to everything, overseas timing quirks, and the sheer volume of new songs that can push the one you posted way down the page. Nobody else would say it's a failure on your part. And we all know you deliver quality, so there's no problems there!

Strangely, I'm having serious issues at work so haven't been able to listen and comment as much as I'd like. So I feel like a failure in that respect.

i would agree with tim there, but i certainly think for a good wee while now there are less comments being made but there are a lot more songs being posted. it is very rare now to see a song getting two or three pages worth of comments and it is very difficult to keep up with all the posts.

Hey hey Willie. You know I'm a fan of your tunes brother, you always give something worth listening to. I know I've really become swamped and can't keep up around here. I might listen to some tunes on my phone through out the day but I never comment from my phone (fat fingers)and often forget to come back later and comment. The site seems to have really blown up with some top quality material and that can certainly be intimidating and can lower the amount of comments but don't let that be the deciding factor as to weather your tunes are any good. You got good ears use those, if you like it, I'm probably going to like it. Take a break if you need to but don't do it because you think your songs aren't up to snuff.
You rock brother!

Willie, it's the same here, don't be disheartened, I hardly have time to visit these days, let alone comment. Plough your furrow. It's a fruitful one.

I was going to say that, but wasn't sure if I was just imagining it. I do think there's been a shift in the posting versus comment ratio on here, but I guess it's hard to quantify. I have a feeling it only takes the absence of a few of the previously 'big' posters like Dave (Bluesberry), Tharek and Mark (Launched) - to name but a few - to throw the balance out of whack.

Well we have the statistics :D

Here's a nerdy little chart showing that except for July last year, the posts pr new topic was quite a lot better until summer 2011. Before that (at least from May 2009) it was around 15 comments pr topic, and after that 11-12. I can only encourage you to stay Willie, I for one also love your music.

And an appeal to us all (myself included):
Remember, the only way to keep the comments/song ratio high is to keep commenting on other people's songs.

Absolutely agree with everyone.

I don`t even have time to lurk on here. There`s so much i`d like to comment and pay forward. There is a lot of new extreme talent on here and i`d  like to comment on them and everyone else that I have musically and cyberly befriended here, but life kicks you in the ass sometimes and it`s kicking me with a steel toe boot right now. I don`t even have time to finish up originals i`ve been dying and trying to post.

I`ve always loved your tunes too Willie. Just keep on keeping on!! :)

I agree with all the replies so far...hang in there, Willie!

I've been swamped with work lately, and haven't been able to spend the time here that I would like, and my own home recording has also been neglected of late. I hope to get more of each in very soon.
