Oh my word! Even with your warning about the twist at the end, I wasn't prepared for that, lol. Brings a little darkness to the jaunty feel of the rest of it. I like the contrast it gives though. This is another TOP collaboration, fellas.  :)

the vocals remind me of robert pollard...in fact, this song as a whole reminds of Guided By Voices..

indierik i know is a big fan of robert pollard and guided by voices and he has told me in the past i sound like robert pollard at times.. i am vaguely familiar with them but i didnt set out to impersonate him , just that style of singing suited the song, but maybe subconsciously there is more going on than we think.

Hope you don't mind, but I put some simple bass on here. This is such a great song, I couldn't resist. Let me know if you want me to change anything. I struggled a bit because the drums are a bit low in the mix, with vox and bass now they are hard to hear and in places that made getting the timing spot on a bit tough. But this is a superb song, subtle intertwining guitars and superb vox from ORH.

First time I've done a collaboration on an imported mp3, so when I mastered it I didn't use any mastering effect, because I assumed it had already been mastered. But what's the form on this, do folks generally leave mastering effects to the last person to add anything?

Cheers,

Nigel (whose hand is getting better after this therapy)

sounds great ferryman, will need to get this on my mp3 to listen properly pc speakers are shit.
regards mastering, i mastered this in pop, but only cos it was a 1st go, to give rik an idea if it was ok. your bass is sweet, as you suggest, mastering with no effects if you know others are going to add, with j kites, sometimes because we where mastering songs at various stages they get muggy, so either master them with no effects, or you can mail each other the individual tracks as mp3s, and one person or all involved can do a mix.
if i was collaborating with hooper for example. i would send him my vocals as he is a wizard at mixing, but when more people are involved its harder to make that choice but with j kite there is no set pattern, and we all pretty much agree on the final mix, no major bust ups as yet lol.

if you want i could post my vox and you could do a mix with your bass and indieriks first post or you could send me your bass. to do that just master the relevant track, ie if you recorded bass to track 3 either turn volume down on tracks 1,2 and 4 or select virtual tracks with no recording on them for playback, if you have recorded your bass in stereo ie tracks 3 and 4, just make sure 1 and 2 are off/silent.

Thanks ORH, glad you think it fits, let's see what Indierik thinks. I did master my bass track on its own before I mixed everything because I needed to tweak the EQ. But I assumed everything else had been mastered so left effects off when I created the mp3. Happy to send you my bass track although I'd be tempted to redo it if anyone's going to hear it "naked" because it's a bit ragged in a couple of places cos I couldn't hear the drums well enouugh (and I don't hear too well anyway). But I'd like Ir to redo the guitar and drums because I feel the drums have got lost a bit - what do you think?

Cheers,

Nigel

Oldrottenhead

you want to hear my vocals with no music ouch, we will see what rik sez, i think i'll redo my vox, but maybe if you put your bass on riks original post and master it with no effects. then i can sing over that, then no one sees our warts lmao.

That'll work for me, but let's see what rik says first. His call entirely. Know what you mean about the vox, LOL.
