There's something very cool about this. Great performances (don't worry... it builds and BUILDS!!!!!), but it's the reaction of Robert Plant as he starts blubbing with pride and emotion that makes it. I didn't know Heart were quite this good... !

Oh dear god, no. Dawn French on vocals. Ricky Gervais on drums. And Kato on guitar. Add the President and Dave 'I used to be cool but now look at me' Grohl. And bowler hats. What the fuck? I'm not surprised Plant was crying.

Did'nt know Heart, but a lot of emotion to see how Jimmy Page approved and pleased very quickly, and how Robert Plant appreciated it progressively from expectative to pleasure, and finally with tears of emotion and surprise.
A lot of emotion for me too.

The same kind of great moments in this extract of a video with The Edge, Jack White and Jimmy Page...

Only few seconds, but so intense...

See the smiles of Jack White and The edge when Page plays the riff of Wholla lotta love...  :) ::)

Are you subtly saying / hinting that you don't like it???!!!!!! ha ha.

The only thing that could have topped it for me would have been Barbara Dixon on vocals ;-) !

Gotta agree with Hen, I couldn't find anything to like about it, Kid Rock, I mean come on,. And the rest? Just crap. Embarrassing to say the least.
Sweet young thing aint sweet no more.

I don't know. I like the Wilson sisters and Jason Bonham. And I like the way they arranged this so that it builds up with the strings and choir. But it's still one of the most over-played songs in rock history, so I can't get too excited about it. A great song, but a victim of over-exposure.

Everybody has the right to like or dislike songs, or the way a song is played, obviously.
But I think you are a little hard with this performance. There are so many covers of this song who are really crap!!! I don't say it's a key moment in the history of rock ... but it's not bad, played with honesty.
What is the importance of Obama in the public, or Dave Grohl on the scene just to be seen? I don't comment it, just what I hear.

If you want to comment using the context, and  if you want to explain why Robert Plant cries, it's perhaps because Jason Bonham - the son of Zeppelin drummer John Bonham - is on drums...
Jimmy Page said about it : "(The Wilson sisters) did a version of 'Stairway' that had a choir and an orchestra. Ann and Nancy Wilson started it up and it was building and building. Then a scrim goes up and it started really rocking. It was great."
Nothing constraint Page to be elogious.

I was pleased to hear it, even if I prefer to listen to DanieldeSète or Oldrottenhead on Songcrafters, or Jimi Hendrix.

I also thought this was excellent , people can knock stuff like this all day long , but come on , they are all fine musicians & hey who wouldn't mind having one of their songs a victim of over exposure

Well I think it was really great...a departure and refreshing listen from the over-played original. They were only paying homage to their heroes.
