I am still hanging in there. I have an afternoon gig today and something else every night this week, so this evening is the only time I'll have to knock out whatever there is to do. Poopie.

Good luck to all with time management.

Go for it TC - you'll be awesome at the Open Mics. Blooby you've got 2 weeks leeway as they don't count the lowest 2 marked assignments. Anyways it's repeated in April (hopefully the same courses) so you can always have another go then.

I'm a week behind on the Songwriting course as I started it a week late, but should catch up tonight. I'm probably going to dip out of the Music Production one (hopefully I'll be able to redo it in April) and concentrate on the Songwriting one, which I'm really enjoying. It's not rocket science but it should make subtle differences. At least it's making me get off my backside and write stuff  ;D

So between work and my daughter's multiple competitive softball team practices and my open mic debut I was unable to do the course this week (quizes due in 20 minutes.) I can do them today (past the deadline) so I thought I'd share a way to extend the quiz deadline in case you wanted to make use and have some more time for this weeks (or any weeks) lesson.

Songwriting Quiz Due Date Extension information: Go to the coursera.org songwriting home page. Click the quizzes header in the left column. You will see all the quizzes currently due. Click on the apply late days button for the first quiz. Add the number of days you need to extend the due date. NOTE you cannoto extend the due date past Monday the "hard date." You will have to go to each quiz and add the extension. I just used 3 of my allotted 20 extension days to give me until tomorrow to do the quizzes.

I've already worked that one out TC but thanks  ;D - thought this week was a bit of a slog (extra long vids) but real interesting - I've put 4 different types of rhymes in Yahoo, it's all just Tickety-boo and concentrated on putting the 5th in the LH on the piano and taking the root out of the RH in Two Little Dickie Birds both posted on the O Board (also used the gain weight thing for We Kissed on the O Board). It's really kick-starting my interest in writing again and opening up a whole world of possibilities. I'm actually looking forward to next week  ;D

How did the open mic go? Did you do your own songs?

It went okay. I did five original songs, mostly newer things. The last one was a train wreck but the other four went off okay. I recorded it and listened back but couldn't make myself listen to the fifth song *evil grin*

I've not done any of the lessons or homework for this week yet, at all. But I've got this afternoon to do so. I should go eat lunch and then get to work, I guess.

First I heard of all this!  Gotta check it out!

Hilary

Cool TC - are you going to post any of the recordings? :) (I'm sure it wasn't nearly as bad as you thought it was btw)

FuzzFace - it's not too late, I started a week late. If nothing else it's giving me a bit of confidence, which I was sadly lacking, because it would appear that I already do most of it instinctively. There was a bit this week where Pat says that any important bits in the song you should sing the tonic - I'm thinking, what, I've never heard of that before, that sounds a bit contrived, does he really mean that, I'm never going to be able to do that etc etc? Then I went back and checked one of my songs and sure enough I already do it  ;D

Umm... no? I thought about it, but Osckilo already did a very fine open mic thread so there isn't much learning to share with ya'll that isn't already for the taking. And I don't want the cheerleading. I'd rather be the tragic artist suffering alone. Don't ask why, I don't really understand it myself. There might be a before and after post at some point.... assuming I stick with it and learn to perform half way decently.

I do hope you post some reflections as I'm fascinated by various folks' journeys into live playing.

Peace.

I'd like to hear it too TC, but whatever's right for you and what you're comfortable with. Performing's a skill just the same as anything else :)
