I had my former bandmates over for a session. Sweet Home Alabama must be the ultimate bar band song ever or at least one of the most over-used and abused but it's still a great 3 chord song. I think if you sit and listen to most bar bands long enough you'll hear this one on their list, lol.

It is recorded live, one take, in my studio with my Fostex VF160. Since we haven't played together for a few years we were picking the easy ones to get warmed up. So you'll have to forgive the rustiness and any warts that pop up.
Farrell - lead vocal and left guitar. Steve - backing vocal and right guitar. Dave - Bass and backing vocal. Kurt - drums.

I'm not a fan of Lynyrd Skynyrd, although I have their Second Helping album which I bought in the seventies (I probably bought it for this song). But you and your friends have done a great job covering this classic. Well done.

I'm afraid I can't add this one to the 70sFest because our festivals are strictly for music performed by Songcrafters members, as stated in the Festivals guide:

https://songcrafters.org/community/index.php?action=articles;sa=view;article=13

It says:
"Please don't submit songs that include non-member performances. The festivals are only for music performed by members of Songcrafters."

Sorry 64....I'm assuming that it can be posted in the cover songs section...if not how do I remove it? You know I looked everywhere (I thought) for the festival rules but I was unable to find them. I see your link but I still can't find them by myself.  Are all the site rules in one spot?

I'm  pretty much in line with 64G here. The only LP I've got of skynnard is SH. And I got it for this song, which is (like it or not) a brilliant three-chord song. And being such a simple song it really takes great musicianship to make a good version of it, and my oh my, you guys sure did !!!!!

Excellent work Farrell !!!!

No need to remove it. It's welcome here in the Covers board. We just feel that our festivals should be only for the work of our members. In general, I feel the same way about the whole site but we try to be flexible and allow the occasional post that includes non-member performances; just not in the festivals.

We try not to have a lot of strict rules. But when we feel a rule is needed, I usually say so in a post somewhere. Unfortunately, these can be hard to find, so I've tried to include them in the Site Help section of the Guides as well. Just point your mouse to "Guides" in the main menu at the top of the page then select "Site Help" from the menu.

Also, whenever you post a message, you'll see a red box and a blue box below the message editor. The blue box has a link to the guide page for Festivals.

I suspect that the Guides section is an underused area of the site. Anyone who's never looked at it should do so. There's some useful info in there.

Update: I've created a new Songcrafters.org board for any topics about the site itself. So, in future, you can look there for answers to questions about site policies, etc. And if you can't find what you're looking for, feel free to post a question in that board.

An absolute kick-ass version of this brilliant song. Brilliant performances all round... tight, talented stuff.

Rocking and kicking. A great version. Like Tim says, it's tight and performed brilliantly.
