Was a little chilly when I woke up so I made some coffee & a fire in my backyard campfire ring (pic attached, 64 any chance of you making it viable to all?) and wrote the song. I decided it had to recorded right then & there, live with all the sounds of my backyard so here it is. As you can see in the pick I set the mbr right on the bricks of the fire ring, I think it came out rather nice. I had hoped to pick up the fire more, but in headphones you can hear it at the end. Straight forward, honest & folkie.

Wastin' Away
written & performed by Hook
A January morning, a cold snaps come through
but what's cold in Florida's probably not cold to you
so in a sweater, my shorts, & sandals on my feet
a campfire ring in my backyard the setting is complete

I wanna waste this morning away
Not think about tomorrow
 or worry over yesterday
gotta be careful not to let this fire die away
so I can keep wastin' away

I complain because I'm human but I truly miss the snow
I miss blue jeans being comfortable & I really miss trench coats
So many of my mental pictures are me in a London Fog
There's my buddy Justin let me through on another log

While I waste this morning away
Not thinking about tomorrow
 or worrying over yesterday
gotta be careful not to let this fire die
so I can let this morning pass right by

You are right it's really cold where I live - shorts is not an option.   :)
This brought me some warmth on a cold winters day.

It's remarkably cold in California, too!

Nice one Hook! It's almost shorts and Tee Shirt weather in N. Calif. but not yet. Maybe a couple more weeks for a little more warmth but the sun is shining this morning. The back yard sounds were cool and they fit with the song and your voice quite well.

Hook - I really, really like this song bro, love the sentiment and the happy/sad elements, and the openness of the recording. Wonderful.

Staring out the window, looking at the snow, and going slightly stir-crazy indoors! Snow's nice for the first hour or so, but gets boring real quick :-)

London fog - its much better these days, but I remember walking home from school and not being able to see the end of my arm  :D, find your way home from memory - at least I wasn't worried about getting mugged walking past the Broadwater Farm estate that day! Crazy days.

Hook can correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the London Fog he mentions in the lyrics is a coat made by an American company called London Fog.

Well I never - you learn something new everyday. Your broad knowledge never ceases to amaze me 64G, I (clearly) took it literally - I've never heard of that brand. I thought Hook was yearning for the very worst of British weather ... drizzle, fog, smog, snow, sleet :-). The "London Fog" just invoked that memory of London and my youth! :-)

You are indeed correct 64, that was my intention. For all my winter wishes fog is not something we lack here in FL. London Fog does make a nice coat & I do miss my trench coat but not to practicle attire for this climate. Haven't crossed the pond to walk in the real thing yet but one day!
Thanks for listening!
