It would appear that Apple's anal OS is responsible for irregular or non-playback issues due to its lack of support for flash player. I ran into the same problem with my iPod.

Apple's feeble explanation for this is, in their opinion, due to the lack of security in flash player. It's more like a pissing contest between Apple and Adobe. The rest of the world has never squawked about a security problem while using flash player.

Just click on an MP3 file while using your iPad, as if you were going to download it. It will play instead of downloading. Quicktime kicks in and does the job. Expect occasional brain farts when using Apple devices.
