"soldiering iron" ???

Just as well that you don't have one. With all that camouflage, it'd be a bugger to find when you need to iron a shirt.  ;)  ;D

Seriously though, you should think about buying a soldering iron. What do you do when your guitar cords or mic cables crap out? Buy new ones? If you had a soldering iron, you could repair them yourself. I've soldered many guitar cables and mic cables.

Well, for only $12.99, I don't blame you. I thought they'd be more. At that price, it's a lot simpler than trying to make one.

Quote from: Hook on December 18, 2012, 05:02:26 PMsnice my first SF30 went dead I've bought 2 other similar ones and they don't even come close to the quality sound I got with this little jimi. I also like the fact I can use it on my mandolin, backpacker guitar, banjo and even my harpsichord I suppose.

Good point about being able to use it on other instruments. But since you've already had one go dead on you, it might not be a bad idea to have a spare or two. Why not order the SF30 for now but also consider making one or two of the Radio Shack cheapies. If you don't want to solder it yourself, I'm sure you could find a friend, neighbour, or relative who could do it for you. It's a simple 5-minute job. Instead, of permanently installing it in the uke, you could make a replica of the SF30. Just attach a short length of shielded cable and solder a phone plug onto the end. You can probably find a suction cup or clip somewhere and crazy glue it onto the pickup.

If you had a soldering iron and a couple of the Radio Shack transducers, you could repair the SF30 if it dies by un-soldering the dead transducer and soldering a Radio Shack transducer in its place, thus reusing the same cable, plug, and clip.
