this is an old tune stix did years ago, recorded on tape, if you got to www.soundclick.com/styxdiamond you can hear original instrumental in its entirity. its called stoned romans 2. stix is pleased i made him a soundclick site but a bit pissed off i spelled his name wrong.
what i have done here is used the intro to stix's tune and taken the lyric i wrote for cornfield/gypsyjam with mr scar and rejigged it to fit is a bit 80s lite metal but reminds me of genesis. the original music was put onto my microbr via a cassette player and ive doubletracked the vocals on the microbr. hope you enjoy it.

spoke to stix last night and he likes song, he recorded the tune about 20 years ago he thinks on an akia dps multitracker using a korg i3 keyboard, drums from an alesis sr16 midi-ed via the korg, charvel 5 guitar via korg ax1000 effects pedal, then mixed onto cassette on his hifi.
20 years later i get the cassette feed it into microbr via line in from an old fostex multitracker, and sang over it via micro inbuilt mic set at fornylon effect twice to doubletrack the vocal.

This one is awesome! The original record sounds great! He used an Akai DPS Multitrack? This brand seems to have a lot of quality stuff. I would like to learn more about this brand.

That is some pretty complex history about this song, a person who listens to it now will never suspect that this was made so many years ago.

It reminds me of Genesis as well!

The recording: I would like to hear more vocals, they sound a bit muffled. But that is a pretty complex original mix so I think it is hard to try to find a space for them. Did you use any effect on vocals?

thanks for the comments, i really like this song myself. stix is a professional musician and know what he's doing, so it's nice when a wee numpty like me can stick something over his stuff..

i wasn't happy with the vocal and lyric, was all done very quickly and doubletracked vocals go out of sync cos song words where so new to me, so i have rejigged the lyrics after listening to song for a couple of days and now completely redone vocals again doubletracked but this time better synced so you can hear the lyrics/words better.
here are new lyrics

there's a baby in the cornfield
there's a black cat in it's pram
i'm drunk lying in the gutter
with a warm beer in my hand

so i think back to my mother
when she held me in her arms
she gave me warmth and succor
and protected me from harm

now the doors are closed behind me
i am lost without a key
there's no one that i can blame
yes it's all been down to me

i have always had a temper
i've been bad and i've been cruel
an old has been who never was
and prob'ly never will

so try not to burn bridges
and try to keep your friends
nothings worse than being alone
it always gets you in the end

and don't go into cornfields

Yes. I admire people like you that can write easily. I always wanted to write stories that create a visual impact. I can imagine the story but can't seem to write it down with the proper words for it.
