this is my song for you by oldrottenhead

Tangled Wires

I love the second version, but if pushed I would still say the first one for me due to the soundscape that the reverbed guitar creates. It may have something to do with the fact that the first version you hear of a song is often the one that you prefer.

It's always gonna be the 'no reverb' for me, hands down every time. Years ago, I distinctly remember hearing the first Lenny Kravitz album and thinking 'This sounds great. This sounds like a real record like the ones I heard as a kid.' It didn't take me long to realise that it was the total lack of reverb that I loved. Go back and listen to all those pure classic albums by so many pure classic artists (The Beatles, The Carpenters, ELO, 10cc, Neil Young, practically anything from the 60's and 70's really!). All 'no reverb'. All elect to 'create' rather than merely 'select'. The purity and fragility and honesty. For what it's worth...

Sweet lullaby, Jim.

henwrench said it well. For me, going without reverb trumps using it most of the time - it just sounds better to my ear - more direct, less mud. That said, reverb can have its place...it's just so often overused!
