For 20 odd years I have strummed on guitars
5,000 lost flat picks, four fingertip scars
I must have broken a million g strings
Banging and tunin', and playing these things.
Banging and tunin', and playing these things.

And it's been 20 years now that I've sung songs
Over a 100 and still growing strong
About drinking and hockey and flying above
Again and again about unhappy love
Over and over, unhappy love.

And it's music for money, but I'll do it for fun
Oh, I know how to do it, it's easily done
To stand on a stage doesn't make me afraid
I'm comfortable up there, it's gotten me laid
It always amazes me when I get paid.

So here am I doing all that I can do
You're paying, I'm playing, I'm grateful to you
Indoors and outdoors, at home and abroad
I sing these songs and you people applaud.
You haven't changed much, you still applaud.

A song for muscians everywhere about life on the road. This is a bit of a lie. It actually terrifies me to stand on a stage. And it has never ever gotten me laid.

It's worse when you set up an open mic/jam, get on stage, and forget how to play  ANYTHING.   It sounds like : a,a,a,a,a,a,a,a,a,a,a,a,a,a,a,a,a,a,a,a,a,a,a,a,a,a#,a,a,a,a,a....

Nice one.

Haven't heard this one before, but I'm a big fan of LWIII's earlier stuff.

Is just a piece of paper
To say a few lines
Make up my mind
So she can read it later

Been there. Frozen fingers. Got so drunk to try to steady nerves, I feel over the drum kit. I don't play anymore.

Excellent. I'm a big fan of Loudon Wainwright III and I love the Career Moves album which was recorded at the Bottom Line in Greenwich Village (I saw Billy Cobham there in the seventies). So many great songs on that album including Tip That Waitress, The Acid Song, The Man Who Couldn't Cry, They Spelled My Name Wrong Again, and many more.

I used to be so nervous I could barely do a downward strum so thought a pre open mic vodka or two was the answer - I ended up trying to sing Pink's Perfect whilst playing the chords to Sarah Mclachlan's Angel (they are nothing alike - not even the same key) and honked like a seal for what seemed like an eternity until it finally dawned on me what I was doing wrong.

You need to get back out there and go through the pain threshhold - you are very talented.

(I don't drink anymore whilst performing btw)
